flat rear tire on 09 Mastiff - warranty?

Yesterday morning I found a screw in my back tire. It was deep enough to leak and I wanted to do a ride so I went to Walmart bought a cheap plug kit and plugged it.

Our local temp got to 104 yesterday so mid-afternoon, the plug I had put in disappeared and I had a flat on the way back from Bartlesville (20 miles from anywhere on Hwy 75).

Here's my question, what if any road hazard warranty do we have on the avon tires? My bike has about 7000 miles on it and I had noticed that the rear was no longer a totally round tire, but was getting a flat strip in the middle from wear.

Already with a bad experience with the cheap plug, I am leaning towards a new tire rather than a plug/patch type repair. Anyone have a comment on this? (right/wrong, too paranoid?)

The other odd thing you probably will never think about is when the rear goes flat, the bike basically stops turning. But the true suprise was the kickstand was totally useless. The bike sat straight up on the flat. So if you ever get a rear flat, make sure you park on a level surface if you have a choice. I basically lucked out on that.

As usual, a passerby stopped within a minute of me pulling over (before my club made it to me) and went and brought me an air tank. I put another plug in it, aired it up and made it home. Plus, I was riding with my M/C club. I can't stress how important it is to have people you can count on with you. Temp was 104 with heat index of 116 and no shade or wind.

you are lucky!!!! so far. buy a new tire, now---life is too short and too dear to risk it any further. (think about that plug blowing out at 70 mph)
there are road hazzard exclusions on the warranties and it sounds like you got a fair amout of miles from the tire.
just my 2 cents, chuck

I was actually running 80-85 when it went flat. I was lucky, if the tire had dismounted and got hung up, you would not be reading this from me.I will be getting a new tire regardless of warranty, it would just be nice if there was a decnt road hazard on the rear tire.

Lucky for you and good job keeping it upright. I have been wondering how the 300 would handle in a high speed blowout. I'm sure it was a handful.

I was thinking of getting a quick plug kit just to get me back to the house but not for long term use.

I just put on a new Avon Cobra 300 on my K-9 Thursday. I was a little early on my replacement and could have gone maybe another 1500 but I got a fair deal on a new 300 from the dealer while I was there getting my starter o-ring replaced. I asked Ron how much to expect from the Avon and he says he's seen them go to 10 to 12 grand and some go in 5. I think about 7500 would have been close on mine. I hope to get to 10 grand and call it good but it don't look like it's going to happen.

I think some club guys took pictures of it sitting straight up. It looked pretty damn strange and of course it was damn low to the ground.

I will see what I can do about a picture...

p.s. Us guys in Oklahoma can ride. The day before this, me, Thumper169 and F-Okie did a 100 mile poker run and it was just as hot. But it was a whole lot more fun. Thumper169 has some sort of story about him and a fence post in the road. As I recall, it was a little hairier than my blowout.

Here are 3 shots of the tire showing what I am calling the flat spot from wear. The curve of the luggage rack tends to make it more noticable.

Honest, if I didn't have this plug issue, I think I would ride the tire another 5000 at least.

You can see how flat the tire is with her sitting on it (no kickstand possible). And one of me at speed 10 minuites before the flat. All in all not exciting pictures, but will keep stlmikie quiet!

They all get a flat spot bro, it's cuz you ride in the middle. I highly doubt you spend much time on the edges. Either way, ebay had a set last week for 330 shipped (front and rear) and have Iron Lightning install it. Call Matt and see what he can do for a price too I guess, but road hazzards are pro-rated anyway and you're about done on that tire.

Hey bro---you don't want a tire to ever blow--get the new one. Use the old one for one hell of a burn out:D
