Final drive noice

My mechanic has adjusted my final drive belt twice but I am still getting a whine. I do not hear the whine all the time, it seems like when I let off the gas it appears (but not all the time). Am I going nuts? :bang: I have a 2004 Chopper. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,

Jimmy

Need to make sure it's tight. Your mechanic hopefully knows this. Alignment is next, it needs to track true.

Go get a can of silicone spray and see if that helps. I spray mine all the time and keep it tight and I made my own alignment device using a hanger thanks to chucktx.

Do it yourself and make sure it's correct. :D

you sure it's not the brakes singing because of the cross drilling of the rotors?? just a thought.

If you have over 10k on your bike, it is probably just wear on your pulley. They were not putting Teflon in 04'. Very common problem on some of the older bike. The dreaded sqeak. DuPont makes a dry spray you can get at Lowes for $5. Through the bike on a stand and lube the pulley.

Not a long term fix, but at least if it goes away, you know that the problem is wear on the pulley and not something larger. Then you can decide to live with it, replace the pulley or get a poly insert installed on your pulley so you never have to deal with it again.

All of the above assuming your alignment is done properly.

Just my 2 cents.

Align the bike yourself, I rarely see them aligned properly from a dealership. Get the axle square by measuring, and set belt tension. Then watch the belt track while the rear wheel is off the ground. Make sure it isn't riding on either edge of the pulley. If it is, adjust the rear wheel on either side to get it tracking right. Doesn't have to be perfectly centered, just make sure it's not rubbing either side. Don't be concerned about making the rear wheel crooked, but if you have to go more than about 1/8" out of alignment you may have another issue.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have just over 4,500 miles on the bike. I guy I bought it from never did anything type of scheduled repairs. I will look into all suggestions and get back to ya'll.
