I found a good solution to the spike air filter. I bought one and really liked the looks but just could'nt stop that RAM air effect as it was leaning out around 70-80mph. It works great pointing vertical but I wanted to have it pointing forward. I took 2 of the K&N prefilter covers and put it on the filter and this solved the problem completely.

BIG DOG MOTORCYCLES will have a repeat customer (if I can ever afford another one) simply because of this website and all the help that is here...
Its almost like having an extended warranty in my book...

Just wish they would ditch the EHC and simplify the electronics... :zz2cents: T-Mack

My 2006 K9 did that before it would quit all together. Like running out of gas. The forum suggested to check or remove the center part of the gas cap vent. I did and problem went away. Just another form of vapor lock. Thanks to all that helped me.

My bike occasionally would do the same thing when it tached at 3000 for an extended period of time, say 30 minutes.

Some Ehcs are sensitive to certain RPMs for extended periods. Not sure why. A BD tech at sturgis told me this 2 yrs ago when my bike was doing what yours did and I thought I wouldn't make it home after the rally. I did make it back but eventually my EHC took a dump. Can't say for sure it's EHC related, could be cam sensor, or jetting like gasman said. Good luck

When mine did it, I found that the coil bolts had come loose and the coil was grounding out to the cover plate.

Sounds to me like your air bleed is too large for the intake. I would drop the air bleed in your carb by one size and see what happens.
