I'm digging that auto clutch. Wonder how reliable it is...:2thumbs:
Time will tell. I put 250 miles a week on my bike. I won't ride the chopper in the rain, though. To much to clean up/polish. Right now we are getting afternoon showers even without the weather predicting them.

Until that stops, I will just be riding the chopper here and there as the weather permits.

I will say that it took no time for me to get used to the auto clutch and loved it once I did.

I called and left the folks at EFM a message about the auto clutch set up. I am very interested in getting additional information. Do you know what guts they use as far a clutch plates? It says they warranty their parts but not the plates.

Sorry for all the questions in advance but I think others may be curious as well.

1) Who did your install and how many hours labor?
2) What did the clutch cost and who did you order it through?
3) Does it slip, walk while stopped, or disappoint in any way?
4) How is up and down shifting without the lever?
5) If you choose to use the lever, what is the difference in feel from stock.

1. you need to send the basket to him. He installs for free. I got the entire belt drive from him so it was all setup when I got it.
2. It used the belt drive basket.
3. It works as advertised....so far. Jury still out. If it slipped before, you will probably need new frictions and steels depending on the abuse level.
4. I use the lever to shift, but there is very little pressure to use it.
5. I have a hydraulic actuator. I think the cable would feel better. But it feels like there is nothing there until around 3k RPM.

From what I can tell if it was slipping due to the frictions and disks it will slip with his setup. If those parts will hold the power his clutch will work.

Call and talk to Gary. He is very helpful and knowledgeable. Emailing has worked, but calling is the fastest.

I am heading out of town today. If I get a chance I will shoot/post a vid of it working.

From what I have gathered, I will order the Bandit clutch. I appreciate the idea of the auto clutch but I would essentially have to buy a Bandit and then send it to them to transform. That's a bit pricey for me right now. Thanks for the input.

So, do you fellows order it from Bandit directly or is there a member wo sells them?

If there are any questions we can help you with about Energy One Clutches, don't be embarrassed or too shy to ask. I guess they call it the Vintage Big Dog which was a Rivera Primo unit, which we make their clutch plates, and for the late version, 2006 and later, they went to a Baker drive unit, which so happens we make their clutch plates too. The only reason you see that $100.00 clutch kit is because it is only frictions and steel plates which you would buy the retrofit from Baker. So basically what I am trying to say is we are simply selling a direct replacement of clutch plates for your Big Dogs. If your Big Dog has 12 plates, with thinner steels, we have that also. We are not trying to compare what we manufacture with Bandit (we also make clutch plates for Bandit that they sell for your Big Dog), Bandit sells complete drive units which would include our clutch plates, their pressure plate and springs. As for EFM, we make Garry's clutch plates also. This is what we do. We manufacture clutch plates not complete drive units. We make all the plates for Rivera Primo, Belt Drives, Ltd., Baker, Bandit, Karata, Sputhe, AIM, EFM and also do custom do re-lines on vintage plates. I hope this information clarifies any lack of understanding about Energy One Clutches. Feel free to give us a call anytime with your clutch questions.
If you need replacement clutch plates for your unit, just give us a call. We will be glad to help.

Well..... I'll be damned. I guess I just ordered a Bandit/Energy One then.

So do you folks have one standard type of plate or do you offer a high performance version for those of us who abuse the bike now and then?

I just got off the phone with Kent at Energy One Clutches and had a really good conversation with him. My clutch has a little bit of slippage on the high gears so I figure I would dig a little deeper and find out what I could do instead of forking out hundreds of dollars on a Bandit when it's not necessary. Kent told me sounds like spring strength and he told me I could get .0092 strength from Baker and I should be good to go. So I called Baker and ordered one for $56 and will have it in a couple days. I've been running a stock clutch that's been modified and I'm putting out a lot of hp and tq. Kent was thinking this is something that he might start stocking these springs in stock so a lot of us that really don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a Bandit can really get away with just $56. Kent was very helpful and considerate and took the time to talk to me and got right back to me within minutes of my message! Great customer service! I'm sure Kent and Mick (Too Badd Customs) will get together on this and in the future be able to provide these parts for us! Hopefully this helps!

I ordered the Bandit because it was highly recommended. When the old clutch came out it was in perfect condition. The only problem was slippage due to a weak spring. Am I in love with the Bandit, yes. Would I have liked to save $700 for a new clutch and labor and just have gotten a new spring, hell yes.

Let me know how the clutch pull is with the stiffer spring. The Bandit has more plates = more grip with a little less lever effort.

A special thanks to Kent from EnergyOne, my clutch pack height was just slightly under factory specs. Instead of selling me a complete clutch pack he GAVE me 3 steel drive plates of a different thickness to bring my clutch pack height to specs. Thanks Kent
My next purchase for clutch parts will be from EnergyOne!

well I have 3 shims (total .125") in my new Bandit Bruiser w/bearing carrier and have slippage in the higher gears when wanting to pass.
Interesting info here as I have a stock 117" in my 05 Chopper.

Anyone else using 3 shims with their Bandit?

I'm hearing a lot about the 05 to 07 clutches. What about the 08's? I have 17K on one of my 08 Ridgebacks and just installed the third clutch. Smoked it in the first 350 miles. This last clutch was the reduced plates clutch. Bad Idea obviously.:bang: :job: I looked on the bandit site and they advertised clutches for the 05 to 07 but didn't see anything for the 08's. I'm gonna call Bandit and see what they offer for the 08's
