Sorry Demo, But he did find a valid "escape" clause. It does say that in the manual. Nothing higher than 55/60W.
And not saying it did or didn't, but the HID might have pushed beyond the EHCs current limits. Doesn't take much, it's already at it's limits with the 55/60W. Jake would know.
Adding anything electrical, controlled by the EHC is tricky business, and I wouldn't suggest it. Enough Issues already.
Sorry!
the last i talked to the dealer they removed the hid and it was ok but they wanted to due some further testing. he said as soon as he hooked the hid back my electronics went haywire. i feel jakes product is nice but not compatable with MY bike.I thought that these things were suposed to be ehc friendly? I think I would be pissed at the seller if they told me it was ok then burnt my ehc.
i understand your product draws less voltage and this is what i told the dealer. the way it was explained to me is the ehc is designed to run on a certain voltage and when you change that you have issues. trust me i to am bummed it won't work cause it looks awsome! My replacement HID kit draws 3.5 amps compared to the Stock 55/65 watt bulb drawing 5.0-5.5 amps.
The HID draws almost half the current as the stock bulb.
I have had 4 bikes that the software locked up but after it was taken out, the EHC worked fine. It won't damage anything.
BDM factory even did some testing of my kit and told me the same thing, the software will only do a temp lock up, but not harm anything.
The Trike Haus in Fort Myers has been having me install HID kits in 2008 and 2009 bikes on the showroom floor before thay even are sold. They have never had one come back with a EHC issue.
That dealer has to prove that the HID did cause it in order to not cover it under warranty per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
They can't void a warranty unless they prove that something caused the problem. Your EHC went south just because it was having a bad day, not the HID.

thanks, tim
jake,It is a software fault in some of the 06 and 07 EHC's that they lock up in a loop.
The HID will not and never will burn up the EHC. It has a low and hogh voltage protection in it that shuts it down. The EHC is fine and it just needs power unhooked from it and the stock bulb put back in and it will be back to normal... If you call the EHC normal.:loony: Don't let the dealer blow smoke up your ass.
BDM electrical tech even told me after they had tested my HID kit at the factory that the older software had issues that would cause it to lock up. It wasn't in the 04 and 05 bikes, and seems to be fixed in most 08 and all 09 bikes.
I had told you in your PM that I'd refund the money back to you if you returned it to me.
Your bike just needs the updated EHC with the newest software in it to be able to run it.
well.... bd corporate is telling me it is positively not the ehc software that's causing my issues. i had the dealer do additional testing (different bike, new battery, new ehc.etc.)and no good. corporate told me it is possable that my headlight wiring has a slighty different resistance than others. that was the answer they gave me when i asked "how come others are running this and i can't?" i had to send my stock bulb back to the dealer. hopefully they will bring my bike back tomorrow:up:. there is a slight possability that i hav a bad hid but it seemed fine. i should be sending my hid back for jake to test on mon. or tues.I'm confused?? My 07 with older software ? works fine with the HID . Was it just his bike or the software ? "It is a software fault in some of the 06 and 07 EHC's that they lock up in a loop." Is it a glitch ? :loony:

If it is a deal with the EHC, It will lock up the first or second time the key is turned on. If it works the first time or two it is in it for the long haul. I can't say that I recall EVER having someone that the HID worked fine for months and then the EHC locked up... Never has happened that I recall. This HID ballast is VERY sensitive to picking up on voltage. Too high, too low or if there is a short in the circuit, the HID will go into shut down into protection mode.
The ones it doesn't work on, the HID ballast is getting a low voltage from the EHC and goes into protection. After it does that, the EHC software gets locked in a loop and in order to get out of it, the battery needs disconnected.
No damage if that happens, just that the ballast isn't compatable with a EHC with a bad circuit in it. Install the stock bulb and run factory. So far I have only had about 2-4 out of every 100 kits I have sold to Big Dog owners not work with a faulty EHC.
I had one guy that the HID did this same thing quite some time ago and after a couple weeks of working trying to figure it out, he told me that his speedo hadn't worked for months and he had an appointment to get it swapped out that week. After the speedo was changed the HID worked fine. The HID ballast was picking up on that and going into protection and then the EHC was locking up because it wasn't seeing a headlight bulb installed basically.
I have been using the micro digital ballast for as long as I have been selling them. They have always fit in the bucket.Jake have you always used the same ballast? I thought that at one time you couldn't fit these into a old style bucket. Now we can right.
st mike you can have my HID light as we talked about before. I have the updated software in my 04 chopper and it shuts off the ignition sometimes and i have to dissconect battery in order to get it started sometimes.
