Just to bump this thread, i am back looking at this Auto clutch. Some time has pasted and i have seen a few comment on various aspects of the Auto clutch. I am still confused (doesn't take much).
To you out there in BDBF land ,
Who has one?
How many miles have you done since install?
Does it get hotter than standard?
Do you have to change your primary oil more?
Do you like/hate it?
Any issues?

A few on here have been running them. One member who I haven't seen on here for a while was having an issue with his. He had to keep tweeking with it to get it right. Sounded more of a hassel than what it was worth, I think he ended up selling his scoot. Hence, why I don't think he's been on. I thought that Ray might have one on his choppa. Ray, you running the EFM?

Think Carlos had one but may have swapped it back if I recall not sure reasoning.

Didn't Tapio try one ??
Yea just read through the thread he is in here too..although I'm nearly certain Carlos went back to stock, not sure about Tapio.

They had trouble with the EFM balls sticking and maintenance on cleaning them.

I have EFM on 2006 - K9. I love it, but i also have a karata 4 inch open primary which made it very easy to install and adjust on the install. the first one he made for me had problems - I installed and road over 900 miles to Daytona, fl, by the time I got there I was having problems shifting. from riding at high steady speeds on highway it had worn little groves where the ball bearing are and would stick. I call and he was surprised that I rode to Daytona. he made me another making the grooves deeper and send it to me in Florida right away. I installed around 25000 miles and now have over 40000 miles, and is still working great for me.

Yeah RCAdd1ct was who I was thinking of. He had his off several times for maintenance.
I had one.

Chopper was down for other issues (ignition modules) and like I said life......

I sold the chopper to a buddy. He wanted the stock BDL clutch installed.

This is a no brainier for a wet clutch. Install it now.

On an open primary make sure there is a way for the clutch dust to escape the attraction of the lubricant on the centrifugal balls.

I had an external clutch shaft support on my BDL so taking apart to clean was not difficult but more involved.

As I said before if I would have kept with it I could have made it work, but life.....

Thanks guy's, yes i have read and re read this thread with no real clear outcome or opinion.

I will be running in my stock primary so the dust issue should not be to much of an issue other than the frequency of oil changes may shorten.

The other big thing for me is the issue of mileage, Bruce you say you have 15K miles without issue, i have a tendency to twist the throttle and gallop along at a fare clip for long periods of time, also i do some serious miles in a day in high temps what are your thoughts?

Just so I we have an understanding, i am NOT and invalid i am just over adjusting my clutch every 1000 miles again, worked great for 12 months now i am having issues again. And i am also scared of breaking a clutch cable 200 miles from bum fuck nowhere (i usually do carry my spare) without a pub (see bar) within walking distance.

Having to adjust your clutch every 1,000 miles?

Probably a bit worn check the stack height should be 1.98" (inches) anything under 1.96" and it's harder to adjust.

Moat likely friction plates are fine just toss a thicker steel in there

Thanks Eric, done all that, make little to no diff, i am pulling the rod out this afternoon when i get home from work.
Then set it all back up as to how Captain told me 2 years ago. As for stack height if i pull that bloody primary of again i'll be leaving it off.
Other than the electrics (now sorted with WP) the clutch is the only problem i have had. Hence the questions re the Auto clutch.

I had to put two thicker steels in mine otherwise my stack was 1.96" and I could never get the adjustment to hold.

Tossed the thicker steels in brought up to 1.98" and after 4K miles haven't touched it.

In my opinion if your not doing a 1/4 turn back off per BDM your stack height is off and it doesn't take much. A stack at 1.98" I can adjust first try no sweat and it also leaves room for wear.

Next time you tear it down measure it ...and try the thicker steel. I bet you dollars to Donuts it works.

At a point where i am ready to try anything.
If i am riding in a pack with my mates and i crack the throttle to pass some cars, you can feel the clutch slip then grab with a shudder.
Very disconcerting when i have 20 other blokes doing the same thing & i slow for a second.
I am quicker of the mark than all of them (can't beat cube's) but i am getting some grief off a few, calling me "slow" .

Tapio had issues...but with a Baker Open Primary. Pretty sure he ditched the EFM.

Have you tried flushing your primary with non-synthetic ATF and then fill it with non-synthetic ATF?

Hi Curtis, no bud i haven't tried that.
Back in the dark ages of Pan's, Shovels and my ol iron head sporty i would flush with diesel, start the bike with the diesel still in the primary and ride it (slowly) around the block, not sure i want to do that to the Dog, so your idea sounds good.
Pulled the rod out and measured it re greased the tip, today i will flush as you recommend and readjust as per advise.

ATF type F fluid if you can get it over there is ideal. Stateside it's cheap and easy to find $5 a qt or less.

Yeah, Eric we have that here.
However we don't have quarts.......................well not since we joined the rest of the world and went metric.:D

I used to run ATF in all my Harley's and race bikes without incident, when i mentioned that 4 years ago i got thumped for considering it.
I have a 1000 mile road trip this w/e so i will see how it performs.
Hopefully THIS w/e it won't be raining like last w/e.

Metric system is easier it's all divisible by 10 or 100.

Here stateside we like to make sure we are smart enough to divide fractions...make sure you can know if 9/16 is bigger than 1/2..lol

I really wonder why there's two systems...
