broadband, did you get the WP installed? Did it fix your problem. I had to have a shop install mine I started it but my time is really limited right now. Bike is running better still needs jetting.

Just under 600. Not even a hickup. For those of you on the fence, deciding whether you should install or not - just do it. Peace of mind is worth more than the cost of the WP. Follow Jake's instructions (and having Jake an email away) and anyone can do the install.

Wire Plus
Look up wire plus on google wireplus.com they have a replacement kit for EHC best way to go. I do suggest sodering all your connections that way you know the wire will stay in the pin. I learned that from the first bike.This is one post I hoped I would never make... :bang:
I need some help in figuring out which direction I should take. About two weeks ago my o4 chopper cut out, went dead like the key was turned off. All electrics were still OK. Waited maybe 2 or 3 minutes, recycled the key off/on a few times, it started up to go a couple hundred yards to konk out again. This time I removed the seat, everything looked OK (circuit breaker NOT tripped, no obvious broke or chaffed wires), I removed the gas cap (thinking vapor lock or no gas) and had gas. Lights, turn signals and horn all operate.
It fired up and ran just fine the rest of the short trip. Saturday afternoon, it cranked and cranked but would not start at all. I keep it on a battery tender all of the time it is not moving. Pulled seat and did not have any lights on the EHC. I pulled the air cleaner and a twist of the throttle sprayed gas in the carb as it should. Since it had gas the next thing I checked was whether it was getting a spark. I pulled both plugs and touched them to the head bolts as I cranked the starter. No spark at all. Put everything back together, attached the battery tender and called it a night.
Next morning I pulled the seat and turned the key and I had lights on the EHC. Hitting the RUN button lit up another light and it started just fine. Gotta love the “self-healing” aspect of these Big Dogs.I thought then to test it with a short 10 mile round trip. At 1.6 on the odometer it died. I pushed & coasted back towards home. So as I pushed up a grade and was just out of breath and popped the seat to see the EHC, turned the key, everything lit up, started it up and rode the rest of the way home. So it had maybe a 15 minute rest or cool down and it started up again. Back on the bat tender. The next day I took out the battery and had it load tested. Mechanic said it is OK fine. Damn, I was hoping it was toast. It was new last riding season.
I am thinking to dump BD electronics at this point. I don’t have the testing equipment to test the cam sensor and I am unsure of the procedure (as explained/posted on this forum) to bypass the EHC. It has a recent upgrade with the HID light from Jake. That was a no brainer. And if something goes wrong with the headlight, can it take out the spark to the plugs? That seems crazy to me but after reading a lot of the posts – just maybe??
How about it guys - What am I over looking? Which way should I go now?

Actual install time was maybe 8 - 10 hours spread out over a week as life kept getting in the way. I just marked where I was in the destructions and came back to it and continued on. The "how-to" by Jake here on the forum is easier to follow that the instruction sheet that comes with the WP.
As far as how much I had to take the bike apart to do the install -- take off the seat, remove battery gives you access to what you need. You need to remove the coil cover to replace the ignition switch. That is easy also. You don't need to remove the gas tank or anything major.
Scariest moment was when I was done...re-installed the battery, connected the positive and negative wires to the posts...turned the switch, had power to the tach/speedo, had lights, hit the horn...it all worked. Grand finale was hitting the start button and had start up. Sweet sound for sure as it started right up, seemed like it spun the starter quicker that it had in the past. I now have about 1500 miles on it since the WP install - zero issues - and the weather is getting colder and time to put it down for the winter. I'll let you know how it starts in the spring. It stays on a float maintainer, on a jack to take off the weight on the tires, start it about every third week thru the winter until it gets hot in a garage that never gets colder than 43 degrees. Damn winters....

Thank you sir!! I am getting ready to order it. I ear all good things about it. My bike only has 3000 miles on it and I could never trust it. I will be at ease once this is done. Big Dog made a harness that is plug and play. Copied off of Wires plus and is supposed to be easier, With that being said it was supposed to be out 2 weeks ago!!!

Hello guys, hope everyone's having a great evening. I've been there for a Big dog chopper just recently started having problems with it but among all the chaos and my lack of knowledge what EHC comes factory on the back
Your 04, originally the ehc was black, with one plug. If it went back for the recall, it may be gold or silver, with the one plug, plugged into a PC board, with two plugs. Basically an adapter.
What exactly is your problem? A lot of times people think it is their ehc, but it may be your battery. What battery are you running and how old is it.

You have the WiresPlus installed (marked as such in second picture)
These were alternative replacement units that required you to butcher the cable harness on the bike.
Wires Plus is now out of business and these units are rare beasts if that in fact is your problem.
You should start a new thread and describe what is and is not happening and if ANYTHING was changed or done to the bike before this started.
Did it sit for a long time, is the battery good (tested) Did someone work on the bike etc.

Yeah I was riding back the other night I stopped and got fuel and when I was getting on the interstate under acceleration it died on me but I didn't lose power after a closer inspection I noticed that the two leads that are kind of booty together that go to the transmission had came off of its connectors That's what I thought huh simple fix you know a kickback whatever but that wasn't the case. It acted like it was going to turn over for a few minutes and from there it just got even more Goofy by the passing minutes, as of now it won't even try to start but I have power basically everywhere except for the tail lights won't work or the blinker the headlight is on but no high beam to switch

And until this happened I had no prior issues with anything on the bike. I put about 6,000 mi on it I service it myself so I'm not completely ignorant of what the possibilities could be, oh my gosh all the information and everything that goes along with that it's quite a mess. Lol
