I changed allot with my engine. I started with removing the baffles in the stock exhaust, then removed the restrictor plates, installed the K&N and jetted the carb. It ran great. Some people would say thats enough but I love speed. Then I got beat a few times so I had Thunder cycle install the .640 cam. hehehehe After that my clutch wouldn't hold the power so I installed the bandit clutch. Then had the carb ported and a t-jet installed and an aftermarket ignition. From there I had the valve guide problem and sent the heads to John Sach and he cut the heads down to give more compression installed bigger valves and did a port job. And last I put on the rb racing 124 challenge pipe on. The bitch rips now. When the tire is a little cold it will spin it in 1st, 2nd, and a little in 3rd. I had it dyno'd and it was around 120 hp. I had john sach ride the bike and he said it feels like it has some more in it that the carb seems like it needs more tuning. Its a blast now. Every step of the way I picked up more and more power. ( except the clutch obviously)

sounds great!

you got me beat with the RB pipe.

but i think i got you with the PSI.

yea you do . I want to get one of those psi carbs. But right now it is allot of money. they say they make more power than anything else. I would be pissed if it didn't, especially for over a grand

Vicky from KC cut a deal with MC Advantages to try one at a deep discount.

let me report to her customer base that it works good. :D

Nice stuff 117bigdog
so If I just wanted to make some quick and easy power gains I could just pull the restrictor plates. this would have me similar to your first modifications? Pipes, intake air flow and restricter plates. I didn't cacth if you said your still running your E carb. if so did that need modified?

thx mark

I have the g carb now worked with the thunder jet. If you keep the e for now and pull the restrictors out you should have it dynoed to to check a/f ratio.

if you pull the restrictor plates you will need spacers to sit in their place. Or you could open up the bores in the restrictor plates with a dremel or something.

I've heard that if you want to eliminate the restrictor plates that they make a spacer plate to put in place of the restrictor plates. Does anyone know if this is true and who makes them or where to get them.

Jim's Machining has spacer plates.
A better idea,if you have the money, would be to do your engine work.If the heads are done properly(compression set),chances are you won't need to use spacer plates.

I have an '05 Chopper DT with the Vance & Hines Big Radius pipes and 1" taller S&S air filter. How can I tell which carb I have? I'm assuming that I have the E carb with restrictor plates. If I replaced the restrictor plates with spacers would I have to re-jet the carb? If so how do I know what size to go with? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

look on the side of your carb...it will be stamped G or E....like in this pic...

Joose - you probably will have to increase your jets - just try upping it one size and see how it rides. Do a search and there is masses of info on carb tuning.

Do it, and if you can swing it, bump up to a G carb. In my case I was able to pick up a new G carb on EBAY for less than 3 bills and then turn around and sell my E carb for damn near the same price. :2thumbs:

I examined my bike and found that I have the super 'E' carb with the restrictor plates and a main jet 076 and intermediate jet 031. I noticed on the BDM site that they sell a jet kit for the 'G' carb and big radius pipes with 076 main and 031 intermediate, also a kit for the 'E' carb and big radius pipes with 072 main and 031 intermediate. I already have the larger jet with the smaller carb. My question is am I currently over jetted (the bike seems to run great, no problems) and if I only replace the restrictor plates with the spacer plates will I have to re-jet? I suppose I probably won't know until I do it...right?

I believe you are over jetted. I have an 05 and the "E" carb, I run a 29.5 and a 74 without the restrictor plates.
If you were to upgrade to the "G" carb and the BDM Big Radius pipes it would come with the 31/76 combo so with the "E" carb you have with this combo you have to be running rich.
Getting a dyno done with the gas analyzer would be the best way to determine if you have the recommended air/fuel ration you should have.

My recommendation is to have the "E" carb modified by Triple X (bored out to 42.5mm) and replace the restricter plates with the spacers and you will be good to go. No need to upgrade to the "G" carb unless you want to race or barhop!

Have fun,
Ray

Thanks Ray. For starters I'm going to replace the restrictors with the spacers first and see how she runs like that. I'll have to make a trip to the dealer and pick up the spacers, also need to replace the brake pads real soon. Again thanks, OJ

I hear alot about the "E" carb with restrictor plates, I just looked and seen mine has the "G" carb. Does that too come with restrictor plates? I bought the bike brand new so no ones fingers have been in it but mine.
