No problem BigDognSoCal!!! Your past posts make a lot more sense now! :)

I'm now researching the xxx carb. There's just something I can't get my brain wrapped around though, which is this:
"Can I install just the booster kit into my existing carb, or does the whole thing need to be rebuilt in some way?"

I noticed on their web site that they have an exchange program, but they also talk about their 'Original Booster Kit' and that it can easily be installed in minutes.

Perhaps the exchange program is for those who want to go from an 'E' to a 'G' carb, or just want the bigger, bored out carb?

It would appear that the 'E' carb is made for engines less than 96 cu, so with my 117 cu, wouldn't I want to go with the 'G'?

Thanks guys for all of your input... sorry if I'm coming across as being a bit on the stupid side with all this. But as one person posted, it's always fun learning about this stuff! :whoop:

Bob at Triple X was the brains behind the "Fire Hydrant" carb that went in the OCC Fire Engine bike.

Yes, you can just get the "Annular tube" and istall it yourself. I haven't looked at prices but I think it's about $45. LDO did this if I remember.

The exchange program is so you don't have a lot of down time. You pay for the mod plus core charge then they send you the carb and after you swap them out you send yours back and they refund you the core charge.

Remember Bob at Triple X (formally xXx) did the fire hydrant carb on the OCC bike. They teamed up with DaVinci then seperated again but it's always been his great design that you see on his website.

:D

You will be charged extra to go from the E to G cause you will need a new intake maniford. If you look on there website they explain the difference between the two. The E with a smaller venturi offers higher velocity for better street riding. The G offers more volume for top end performance. I you just ride without a need for "top end speed" then the E is fine as you already know and I do too!

This example is S&S chart but remember you have an EPA motor so this wouldn't necessarily apply. Your E carb is fine as posted above. You would probably like the modified E carb like I have for ridability, it's bored out to 42.5mm, they install an air bleed and I had mine done before they offered chrome but they swapped me later. It run great I might add!

Thanks Raywood! That great info.

So perhaps for my needs I can stick with the 'E' carb. I'm not the type of rider that likes to red line it, and in fact rarely get above 4K RPM. Plus with all the riding I do (currently closing in on 48,000 miles), ridability is key. I would assume that if I do the excahange program and get their 'E' carb model, that it comes with their boost kit installed.

I'll keep you guys posted.

just for shits and giggles, you should at least change out the restrictor plates for better flow.

Carb 'E' is on order!

OK, so after much research and thinking I decided to order the triple X carb via their exchange program. I went with the 'E' due to Raywood's input and the feedback from triple X, which was this:

"I would agree to staying with the S&S 'E' also due to your riding style. Our modified 'E' either chrome or non chrome will improve the performance from idle up to about 4500rpm. What you have read about the higher velocity that the 'E' provides is correct and with our carb you will experience even faster acceleration and have a better responding carb."

One question, Raywood mentioned to get the spacer required after removing the restrictor from Nelson... who's Nelson? Perhaps I'm having another senior moment, but I can't place the name.

Thanks again all for your input. Next I'll be looking into pipes. I found a set that has the Right-Side-Drive Pro-Street Bassani's for $295 at:
BassaniEast.com Your Source For Bassani Xhaust for Your Harley Davidson from Racepro

Have to wonder though that if they are that cheap, there must be something amiss... like perhaps they have no heat shields.

The quest continues...

my bike was dynoed before they delievered it to me..in Feb of 07.....this was stock with V&H BR pipes...full baffles....not bad...98.78 hp and 113.93 tq
now I have cut baffles... S&S Desperado cleaner with K&N filter, .600 cam
want to get the Doherty Power Pacc backing plate and carb xXx then get it re-dynoed...

Just curious how much do you think you will gain from those mods?
I've been wanting to do the same thing until my warranty expires and then have the heads and cylinders done
