4 bikes only?

Maybe we can sqeeze in a few other bikes for guys who just want to get a number, no tuning? You say you don't want much but a pull to establish a number would be nice. Probably the same for guys like House.

Gas,
As you now know Dyno Dan (Dan West) has retired and sold his machine. The list of qualified tuners is getting smaller, I want in if we go to Seat's guy!
The dirt road this time of year doesn't sound too good, but I would like to get my bike tuned asap. I mentioned to Doc this week that the $$$ of their dyno tuner was out of line. Hopefully they can talk them down and we can check their shop out. If any one else has any ideas, lets hear them!

I was talking to the service manager last week. She was suppose to get back with me and didn't. So I just bounced her a email on it... I'll find out what the deal is... really no point to go thru FT...

Gas,
Your right we don't need to go through FT, we just need to make sure who we use knows how to tune a bike!!!

Doug forest told me the name of the guy that bought Dans dyno. They said he was running it out of his garage. I can't remember his name. Call them and ask who they reccomend. Just an idea.

Well I have spoke to the manager at Full Throttle.

$165 including jet changes

How many bikes would be interested in running? And would you want just a HP run or tuning?

Does that include ignition adjustments as well? I would assume that they will change as many jets as needed for a proper tune for that price?

Speaking of Rocker boxes, the chrome on my front one is pitted  Is this by any chance covered under warranty? If not, how do I get a new one?

Check with Full Throttle, but I dont think that BDM is replacing the whole box anymore...
and they only warranty chrome for 6 months...

Nelson-WB?, or a whole lot of places sell the TP boxes...

FT is throwing away the TP boxes, they are also replacing some heads depending if the guides are wore out. this is fully covered under warrenty.

i believe doc said he had to put new heads on chopper dave's bike when he did the boxes.

The chrome is only warranty for 6 months. So if you have pitting and it has been over that period, highly unlikely to get the boxes replaced due to pitting alone.

On my experience with a head replacement, it appears that BDM does not change the rocker boxes from TP to S&S always. Mine were changed and everything went S&S inlcuding the roller rockers with exception of the boxes themselves. They did not change from the TP orginal to S&S for there was no need too and the boxes supposedily have nothing to do with the problem of the occasional head and worn guides. So I still have the TP boxes and there is no problems with them including still good chrome, then again I do not have to deal with salted roads like some up in the north may.

$450 for a dyno tune does seem high, but then again what will that entail. I would figure if they are going to a very detail tune with finding the proper jets and timing, if applicable, it would be based on the hourly rate since each would be a little different. That said a good tuner should be able to nail it fairly quick though

If it is a EFI equiped bike and needs mapping, would recommend that it be done on a brake dyno that can do more than typical sweep test typical for normal DynoJet runs. S&S even recommends such for their EFI systems and trying to nail down an accurate map without the use of a brake dyno, IMHO is a waste of money.

Good luck to all

I'm still working on this with FT.

The $450 includes crap like bolting on new pipes, new air cleaners, ect. I told them to ignore that crap. That we will be bringing bikes that have all that done. They will need jet and ignition changes. Some may only want to run them for a hp number with NO tuning.

The problem is that they don't do it themselves. So getting answers is PIA. I know that the dyno place is in Charlotte, MI.

On the rocker boxes... they are warrenting them for excessive wear, nothing to do with chrome.

GM,

When mine was done, they kept the TP boxes for they were still good, but did put everything else from rockers, to heads, to valves and springs with S&S. On the boxes the only place for excess wear would be at the stancion between the rocker itself and the box and due the close tolerance, I understand it is not a common issue. That and the rockers are movng on a fixed shaft with ratational forces and very little to any laterial forces, getting high wear at the stancion would be rare.

I know when they did some of the first heads jobs, that BDM jsut sent them a whole package with S&S Rocker Boxes and all, I think since then, they are doing so less and also have found that many of the heads that were sent back for excess wear did not have such and thus become a little more picky and started to have the dealers do some tasting, such as blow by and measuring more than at first.

Regardless, I am convident that if there is a problem with the heads and it is still under warrentee, that BDm will step up in the overwhelming matter of cases and get it taken care of, including boxes if needed, just no so much of new boxes as wholesale approach.

Chris, I would catch one of the mobile Dyno tuners that do that stuff for a living. Here is a couple to check out and there are others. Plus they are less expensive!

Rolling Thunder Dyno Online

I've had mine done twice by Speeds and it was about $120 each time.
I had scheduled with Rolling Thunder in Laughlin once but he cancelled and recommended Speeds which I thought was cool!
Up here in Washington we have a mobile guy that goes to all the local rallies and only charges $25 for a simple run to see HP Tq and air/fuel mixture.
