Dyno Results on a 2006 K9

Just got mine dyno'd and tuned. HP is 114, tq is 124. HP was 119 with no aircleaner. I cut off my D&M and slide on a k&n filter. 31/84 are my jets. I was shocked at the 84 main. My bike has 650 woods cam, ported and polished, bigger valves(I think both 85 over) XXX carb, K&N filter, Dyna 2000 ign. Mean Mother exhaust. I will scan info and post tomorrow. I think the RB racing pipe will get me 5-10 more HP's. Need to find $900 bucks. LOL

You could think about baker torq box too.Wonder what the torq rating is for the stock bdm trany is? Nice dyno numbers though

a loss of 12 HP through the drive train sounds a lot though - doesn't it? thats more than 10%
I don't think so. It has to move:primary chain, tranny gears, clutch slippage, belt, and wheel/tire combo.

Anyone know how much the 300mm rear wheel and tire weigh?? there has to be a pretty big penalty for this in torque and HP moving the big son-of-a-bitch.

The S&S Shop Manual shows the following for their 124"

Max HP/Torque: 134.1/148.3 S&S Tuned Runner Induction
129.2/137.0 S&S "G" Carb with IST Ignition

That said, the 124" runs the 640 cam w/ 11:5:1 compression.

The S&S 117" from the factory uses the 600 cam 10:5:1 compression. Our stock motors run 9:6:1 compression and I bet a 585 cam to meet EPA requirements.

So to get HP/Torque closer to factory and somewhat near the 124" we spend $$

- Up the compression to 10:5:1
- Tighten the squish
- 600 CAM or 640 (stock springs look like a fit) or woods cam
- Remove the intake restrictions - IE get a better/bigger air filter with a less
restrictive cover
- New ignition system
- Performance Exhaust -- 2-into-1 pipes for maximum power

$$$$$ and your there ... question is, is it really worth it? and what does it do to the life of the motor, the transmission, drive train ..

I did this to my last scoot, it ate starters, batteries, tires, transmissions (baker 6 speeds, 1 every 5,000 miles), primary chains .. yup it sure was fun and I got to spend alot of quality time with the folks at the shop tossing money at em.

Slowrower,

Thats a great point I've been wondering too. I think BDM only gives a 6 month warranty on the 124 so they must know something.
I would really like to do those same mods but I would like this engine to last for a while

Anyone have some more experience?

There is a fine line between more performance and less reliability. I have the .600 cam, extended S&S air filter, and baffles cut in half and it hauls ass compared to stock configuration even with new pipes. I don't need anymore power or plan on going any further due to reliability. You start needing chain drives, better clutches, etc from here on out.

Compression is a slow killer to parts. If you dont change it, parts should last just as long. Cam is a cam, ect. On my 04 bulldog, I did not deck heads at all. My compression and squish are fine. I expect my motor as my builder it should be just as reliable as a stock motor. Runs like a bat out of hell. A well built motor will last a long time.

all good points there - I also see that S&S give an extra year warranty on their motors if you have the IST ignition with it - they must have confidence in the IST to offer that

S&S make it - it tunes itself to your bike and will adjust timing for any mods you make, changes in fuel octane etc etc and will adjust if it senses pinging to protect the engine - not cheap though - I paid about $330 for the module and the same again for the installation kit - you will probably have an easier time finding it for less than me - see HDLarry's thread on it
