Doing things right the first time....

Doing the job correctly the first time, taking your time, making sure everything is 100% = No comebacks. If you have time to do the same job again later on, you had time to do it correctly the first time.

With this being said, I have been in contact with a member on here that has been having problems with his bike. He took it to a known name shop for a simple clutch slipping issue, only to have them literally break his transmission. Somehow they managed to break off the main shaft while working on it. This particular one did not fall under the old style that was known to fail. But, because the customer was not aware of the differences between the two, he went ahead and paid the shop to rebuild it. Only to find they had not fixed the clutch slipping problem, the main reason for taking it to them.

So, he went to another shop, having Baker tell him he needed to send the transmission to them to rebuild a second time, spending more money, and still having the clutch slip.
What should have cost the owner less than $500 parts and labor for a new clutch pack, seals, oil, heavy clutch spring...ended up being over $4700:eek:
And the original problem is still there!!!!:bang:

So the point to this thread is, it might be more cost effective for someone to fly a certain individual to their location, fix the problem right the first time, save a lot of $$, and ride off into the sunset with a smile on your face :D

All I will say for now is it was a very well known one in Florida. It was talked about a couple months ago on here. I try not not bash on other shops, but this is just ridiculous  In order to break off a main shaft from torquing the clutch nut down, they had to of had a 10 ft long breaker bar on the thing:eek:
Then to charge a customer for their mistake!! unreal!!! Bunch of :job::job::job:'s

Roger that....finding the right person for the right job is well worth the time doing the research. Most f-ups happen when you're in a hurry to get the machine back on the road. I've made this f-up myself on other issues.

For anything, think BigDogTech01 first -- especially in the Baker transmission department!

Pretty hard to believe the shaft broke while working on the clutch...there's more to this... Just saying.
They broke it while tightening nut down using a huge breaker bar from what I'm told.
It's called lack of knowledge and carelessness. It's sad because I hear this kind of stuff often. Mostly with our local H-D dealer. They hire on guys with no training or experience just so they don't have to pay them much, only to have all kinds of problems in the future. A few years ago one of the guys in the service dept filled the brand new GMC Duramax Diesel up with Gasoline and took a drive down the highway...a few miles down the road, the motor cut out and caused thousands in damage :bang:

Wow!! That really is a crappy thing to do to a customer!! If it really was the shop mentioned above, they should definitely know better!!!
