My 07 pitbull with 225 miles has been suffering oil pressure problems since right after i got it home, back @ dealer thay said no problem, but i had a gauge on it to verify 0 psi thay said 15 @ idel & 35 @ 2000 rpm i went & checked my gauge, fine. S&S said check vent line, sure seems strange. light on gauge reads 0 but dealer said good, any comets, any one

Another round please
Ride it, blow the motor, then get a new one. I say have the shop show you the readings as they test it. Take your gage also to show them your numbers as you show them how you get the readings.

I know a lot of guys have taken their guages off because at idle read "0" when in fact it is about 15 or so and scare the shit out of them for no reason. There are a lot of threads on this. Oil pressure guages really don't work well on bikes (leaks etc.) and there is no real reason for them on a modern engine. It's like having a girlfriend with an irregular period....too many false alarms.

I have to agree with Barhopper, as long as it's still under warranty...!! Ride it till it blows, locks up or whatever. Then tell them a new engine, no rebuild..!!

:D

I'm gona give it a shot let the dealer see what thay do, & then balls to the wall let her rip, I guess I should let it get out of break in before droping the hammer, case they say somthing about high rpm

dealer called today found no oil pressure issues light stays off now the gauge is mounted & reading correct pressures, dealer drove bike about 100 miles today doing great, gona keep it another day ride more to see if problem repets itself. Has any one herd of this problem only happening when first starting bike, maybe a pressure relief sticking or check valve hanging up, it was a 07 sitting on floor all year, i'm gona get it back tomorrow & ride the hell out of it.. This service call does documint oil problem, dealer has put more miles on bike than me

like you said, you can ride the hell out of it just be careful of your break in instructions and definitely don't get any hits on the rev limiter.

speaking of rev limiter when i bought the bike i didn't know about the memory till i got home & noticed every time i turned the key 4950 poped up on the speedo called the dealer & ask thay had done it before pick up thay said thay knew dont worry about it thay do alot of them, hope it dosen't become a problem

Try to get the EHC read out from the dealer after they ride and before you pick it up...Just incase they hit the rev limit during the "test rides"...Just to be sure you have a good reference point...Just in case...

Eric the numbers you see when you turn it on are not the Rev Hits. It is the pulse count and normal during the start-up. The Rev Hits as well as the other information comes from the EHC and is downloaded from same by dealer using a computer and the BD software. Anytime you have it in for warranty work, they normal will do a download and send a copy to BD. Always ask for a copy, and best to mention it up front and have them write it down on the work order.

Especially important during the break-in period. Also when they do do the download and provide you a copy, have the dealer go over it with you and explain the numbers.

On the OP issues, regardless if the dealer feels it is okay or not, if the OP light is coming on during normal riding with the idel set right (1000 RPM). Something is not correct and should be fixed, even if it is as simple as a sender issues. Especially with it being under warranty and new. Recommend not to accept otherwise from a dealer. They put the light on there for a reason and if it is not right, how will the rider know when it is and truly indicating a problem.

I and many others have OP gages on ours, and from my own experience, with a decent gage. I see no less then 10 PSi at idel when hot, never 0 unless engine is not running. Typically 30-35 PSI at speed, maybe a little more depending on temp.

These engines do not require a great amount of pressure, however they do require some. If a gage is reading 0 while running, something is wrong, bad gage, bad pump, bad regulating spring, debri in screen, stuck check ball, something.

Would not accept the off cuff of it is okay. Maybe now, but could be leading to a problem down the road.

Good luck and keep us advised of how it all works out and safe and fun riding.

thanks for the info but what does EHC stand for & what does it do
take your seat off and look down inside the well. long skinny (about 2"x8") with a couple rows of lights on it. it is the brains of the bike. known to be temperamental.

EHC-Electronic Harness Control, if not mistaken. As said above, basic brains for the controls of all the circuits. Takes the appropraite input signals from the controls such as OP, turn signal, horn, high and low beam, starter, off, run, etc and sends out the proper output to make the actions occur.

An example would be that it see the OP sensor change state and thus sends the single to the light on the tach board from off to on or vice versa. If there is a short to ground or loose connection, moisture, etc, could cause the OP light to come on though pressure is good. Very sensitive to moisture as are many of the connections and there are some good info to be found on the search tool on how to improve the moisture resistance and precautions to be taken when washing, etc.
