Crashed Monday, how to deal with the adjuster?

Monday morning I was riding home from MD, and on Rt 13 in DE some stupid fucking kid made a right from the left lane right in front of me. I t-boned him but it was more of a sideswipe since I was sliding sideways when I hit him. Anyway, I went down and my bike was trashed on the left side. I am putting in the claim with his insurance co to avoid paying my deductible. My bike is a 2004 Big Dog Chopper, but the only thing left on the bike that is actually BD is the frame and wheels. Every other part of the bike is either aftermarket or custom made. When the adjuster comes, I was planning on making a list of all the damaged items, and having printouts in hand with retail pricing and quotes for every damaged item. What do you guys think? The kid was at fault, and was cited for an unsafe lane change. I had 2 buddies following me who saw the whole thing, as well as a cop who happened to be right across the street at the time. Am I doing the right thing by going directly to his ins co, or should I just pay my deductible, use my insurance, and try to recoup the deductible from his insurance later? I have minor injuries, banged up and scraped knee, and a deep puncture on the back of my leg.

Tell your insurance company but you shouldn't have to pay the deductable they will just handle everything for you on fileing the claim against his company that is what they do in Iowa

yeah bro what Kfoss said. just inform your insurance co of whats going on,but do go through his co .for the payoff, you can make out like a bandit on this deal.get parts replacement costs from bd when the check shows up go back to aftermarket & laugh all to the way to the bank ,also you get payback for the knucklehead that screwed your putt up!:2thumbs::whoop::lol:

When I had a accident my insurance at the time was progresssive they offered me $900 to fix it excatly what the body shop would charge I waited and let the other persons insurance pay and got $1600 they had state farm and it wsa there fault..

First glad your OK moe, and make sure you hold back on showing your receipts unless they ask. I showed my insurance company catalog pages with retail prices to keep the dollar amount high. I ended up getting a front end that cost $1000 more than what I spent by doing this without any cost to me.

1st off thankfully you are ok and all the major damage is contained to the bike and not you, second if you use your insurance company no matter what you will have to foot the deductible and your insurance company will recoup it from his insurance company at a later date and whoever knows how long from now,if it becomes a he said she said battle then the $$$$ is tied up for however long....then just do like AL said and sit back and let his insurance adjuster do the estimate, after the estimate is done take it home and then do the pricing on it to make sure the prices he has written will cover the parts you need if they arent all you need to do is submit what is called a supplement which anyone that is in the bodyshop industry knows happens on 99.5 % of every car that comes through the shop, its where you just either find online or use your receipts to indicate the parts are more....for cars there is a standardized computer program that gives prices for oem parts and labor times to do each and every job to a cat/truck/SUV but i dont think thats the case with bikes cause i have had 2 adjusters that i know come to me and ask me what would be a fair price to pay out on a custom motorcycle paint job....if you would like any other detailed information about how the whole procedure goes down dont hesitate to call my shop 410-284-4170...thurs and friday i will be out though...takin my grand daughter camping at harpers ferry west virginia...seriously you need any help just call...also it isnt like theres a time limit on you doing this...meaning you dont immediately have to start the repair process as soon as they write the estimate.i have people file the claim and show up 2 months later...now you cant wait a year but you have plenty of time to get all your eggs in the basket.......

Moe - I don't know how it would work in your state but here if the other party was at fault then nothing should come out of your pocket. All is to be taken care of through the insurance company of those who are at fault.

It is something that you might want to look into. You just might not be pulling anything out of pocket also glad you're o.k.

Damn Moe! Really sorry to hear this but mighty glad you are pretty much OK. I know you put a lot of sweat, thought, and $$ into that bike.:bang::angry:

As far as the insurance, I don't have a lot of experience, but I would think YOUR insurance maybe would be looking out for your best interest while HIS would be trying to "low-dollar" you.

Glad your ok Moe!! Dont show anyone anything!! Take it to a BD dealer and let them do an estimate, they will charge you a fee but the ins will pay that, take the money and run. I didnt know what to do on my accident but after reviewing my options I ended up pocketing around $2200 after the repairs were made, factory parts are way higher than aftermarket so go this route.

Glad to hear you escaped with only minor injuries, bro'!

Thank goodness the kid has insurance and wasn't some illegal alien driving with NO insurance, like they're finding a lot of in my home state of IL:rant: Your insurance company should handle everything for you. Do you have full replacment coverage in your policy? Some co's even offer $3-5K extra for accessory coverage.

Know what you have and are legally/contractually entitled to with your insurance co. before you get too far into it.

Good luck...let us know when you get your new 'Dog!
