Compression Release Valves

I blew out the front cylinder compression release valve over the weekend and I've got a set ordered. I have a couple of questions I thought I would ask about.
1. Would it make sense to run the engine up to operating temperature to help loosen the threads for removal?
2. Is there an existing electrical plug to tie into, or should I just cut the wires on the new valve and tie into the existing wires...or...should I run the new wires to their power source?
3. Before removing the existing wires, should I attach an alligator clip/volt meter to ensure I'm getting voltage during startup? I question this because I have noticed a pause/hesitation during startup for several months. I thought my battery was crapping out on me but in retrospect it seems to indicate the valve had failed and pressure was not being released.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Yes. I called S&S, they gave me part numbers for everything and directed me to J & P Cycles. The Socket, Valves, and gaskets were around $400. I didn't bother to shop around because I wanted to get it shipped before the weekend if possible.

Help...I read an excellent article on replacing compression release Valves. One question, I found an attached image illustrating torque values. My question is; in the attached illustration, do the Colors used for Bullet Points indicate the type of Locktite to use, or should I just use blue on everything? The article only referenced blue.

If I'm not mistaken you are looking at Size ,Sequence and Torque specs of the different bolts. Locktite specs are referenced on page 5-2 of this link. It's for an 07 but should be the same as your 06 . https://www.dropbox.com/s/gtzm05yzkts738n/BDM 07 Chapter 5 Engine.pdf?dl=0

Thanks everyone. I especially appreciate the link that references torque/loctite. I decided to go with blue on everything except the cover. I found a bolt that was chewed up pretty bad and I want to replace it. Since I have to open the cover again I used the Purple, Low Strength. The article I found was perfect, beautiful images that made everything very clear. The whole job took me about 4 hours. I'm sure it could be done alot quicker the next time.

By the way, I don't have alot of knowledge on these bikes so I haven't be able to repay the overwhelming support I've received from you guys...so I thought I could offer something else in return. The 2-Piece Socket required to remove the Compression Valve is a little expensive, so I thought I could loan it to anyone needing to do a replacement. Just shoot me a message and I'll mail it. Thanks everyone.

Fwiw, I just had to tighten my rear CR on the 04 Chopper. No need to pull the motor. Plenty of clearance Clarance.

I'm doing it right now. Pain in the azzzzzz! But so far I'm able to get tools in the box. Down to the bottom cover. It just looked like there was going to be a clearance issue. Really da appreciate your quick response. I don't know what I'd do without this forum. I just replaced the front CRV after killing a new battery in about 10 months. Looks like both were bad. Thanks
