Now Dennis,.....you know that any "assumption" is the mother of all..."F" Ups! :D:lol::lol::lol::lol:

But it would be nice, wouldn't it? :2thumbs:

I don't think that any of the dealerships really have anything to test the EHCs with. They just go through the same processes that we do here, trying to get them working again. An if not, then they're replaced with new and the old ones are sent back to the factory and they "can" test them. :loony:
You're right Dead!!! It would be more likely a dealership would rather sell you a new EHC than fix the problem that may be no more than a chaffed wire! On the up side, I think that's the kind of dealerships that are disappearing in this day and age. It's only the good guys that are truly interested in getting your bike running without raking you over the coals that will be left standing...

If the Rickster lived closer I would test his entire electrical system for him if he needed. I have all the BDM breakout boxes to just plug in and be able to test every wire going to and from the EHC. I would not take advantage of him, but then again, I am not a dealership:)

I will check with Joe Harrison on priceing, i will be out of town all week but will check around. I will also check with Danny Cycles in Magnolia to see if he services Bigdogs, he worked on my Harley and does a great job. Not sure if he only works on Harleys.

Great Offer Tech. :2thumbs:, but Rick's in TX. and you're in NY., plus he's already done all of the testing himself. :2thumbs:

Good Battery, No Short in Charging System, Both EHC "D" connectors are clean and secure, Key Switch is making continuity, and the EHC is "NOT" Powering up whatsoever, he can see the main internal circuit breaker tripping.(flash on for just a split second then noda) Like I told Rick, sorry but it's gone south due to the continuous intermittent battery connection when it broke off, spikes and surges. EHC hate that mess. :down:

I should have thought of this before but just realized your profile says you live in Huston. I have a few friends out there that work on motorcycles. One of them is John Millar. I went to Bigdog training with him. He is a hell of a nice guy and knows his stuff. He's been in the field longer than I have. Was working for a dealer out there but now recently opened his own shop. I would definitely give him a call and see if he can take a look at your bike. I'm sure he would be reasonable priced and the quality of work would be worth it in itself. Last email I received had this attached...

People can reach me at 832-217-9043. The shop is located at 8908 Roper Road in Orchard, Texas. Give me a call. Let me help you keep your ride running!

Thank you for your continued support!

Thanks Tech01, i will give him a call this week. Man it is great to have a site like this. Nice to have Biker Friends across the USA. I am traveling to Corpus and McAllen this week, will have plenty of time to call while driving.

Just curious, if I were to put an inline fuse on the lead going to the EHC to protect it in the future, What amp 12V fuse would be needed? Dont want too small of fuse and also wouldnt want one that would not blow before damanging.

FREEDOM!!!
For sensitive DC electronics it would be safer for the components to control voltage as well as amperage spikes. Maybe some EE's here could design the correct protection for the EHCs.

No fuse!!!:nono::nonod:
It already has a main auto breaker and "I'm sure", some power regulation and some power filtering built in. Better power filtering might be a good idea, but without knowing the "exact" design within the EHC, that could possibly cause more trouble than good. The 270CCA or 310CCA are just not quite big enough to absorb much in the way of any big power fluctuation. That's why I recommend the Braille Battery. It's a little more expensive, but it's a little bigger in the CCA dept., and that helps filter out just a little bit more too! :2thumbs:

Just try and not brake off any more battery terminals would be best. :D :2thumbs:

You Big Brute! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

LOL, i am going to hunt down the person i bought the bike from and the one that put the Cheap @$$ battery on it to start with. Think they owe me a new EHC. Also Tech01., i contacted your friend from training today, he is to look up price for me and get back with me tomorrow. He is about 1 1/2 from me but see it as worth it if he will not rake me over the coals.

BTW when I said pay shipping I meant to send the EHC off the bike, not to ship the bike to me...that could get expensive:roll:

Thanks for all of you and your help, i broke down yesterday and took the bike to a mechanic, He thinks he may be able to repair the current EHC if it isnt blown too bad, Guess i will find out next week the damage. It is good to have you all for support and believe if is was any other issues other than this EHC, you all would be able to help me fix it. Thanks again for all your support, you guys and gals are GREAT.

Will let you know the outcome soon, I hope.

As I PMed Rickster,

Repair an EHC if it's not blown too bad? :eek:...:D...:loony:....:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I caution anyone out there that hears this comment from their mechanic;

EHCs "CANNOT" be repaired if they're blown or bad!!!!

They can however be "flashed", which is nothing more than updating the programming within them. :2thumbs:

But internally repaired? :D:lol::lol::lol:

I'd even like to see that one due to the EHCs are totally encapsulated in epoxy! :2thumbs::lol::lol::lol:

That'd be a pretty neat trick to see! :lol::lol::lol::lol:

I wish Rickster the best in his endeavor! :2thumbs:

dead :cheers:

Don't Look at my Member!
It sounds as if there may be a short possibly under the tank or it could even be in the handle bar controls.
Something is bothering the EHC.

Dead,
Couldn't a short on the secondary side of the EHC cause it to flicker as described and shut down?? Could be something pinched under the tank or handlebar?
