Clutch suggestions

The tranny is made for big dog (proprietary)..you would have to change your tranny to have more options on belt drives and clutches..
ok... but what makes the big dog tranny so special that no other clutch or drive works with it??? is it a custom bolt pattern on the tranny or something else?

Different bolt pattern

Different distance between the engine main shaft and the transmission mainshaft.

Lower profile primary so the starter fits under the side covers.

Other primary back plates will not just bolt up. (Jus the minimum availability of open primary set ups)

Transmission and primary was designed for Big Dog fit only.

This pertains to the 05 and later models

The problem that lies within is that other manufacturers as well as the current are not willing to invest in to desiging and building a new or better product for our bikes.

Got a question for the group. gotta 2005 chopper rt, barely 5000 miles when ( I thought) my clutch was going. What I mean is; when I crank on it at the top end of 2nd and third gear, I would feel what was a "jackhammer" in the seat of my pants. I thougt the clutch was slipping. So I had my Mechanic replace it with a Bandit Machine works clutch and basket. However, this did not resolve the situation. So I am open to advice at this point.
Having the same problem with the same bike. What’s the fix?

2005 Bigdog chopper. Jackhammer under seat. Felt like the belt was slipping. Changed 12 plate baker setup to the nine plate baker upgrade. New hd diaphragm spring, new ball and ramps and now slipping in higher gears. In lower gears still feels like belt is slipping. Or clutch slipping but rough. Clutch has been adjusted as it should be per manual and back out up to a full turn out just to see and still slips. Anyone ever had this problem?

If you are only slipping in 4th and up, you may have an issue with slop in the trans main shaft.

4th and up gear are helical cut gears and side load the main shaft. If there is slop due to worn bearings it will shift and unload the clutch.

If I lean in the throttle it will slip in the lower gears as well. Just much easier or more prone to in the higher gears. I was thinking maybe the pressure plate is worn a little but I’m not sure if this has been a problem for anyone else.

The bike has about 7,000 miles on it.

Also has a cam and a few other things so it’s pushing more than stock hp.

Welcome from NJ,
Inspect your trans drive pulley, the rear wheel drive pulley and all the cogs on your drive belt for wear. Check the belt tension also. You may see some clues to your problem. You may be picking up a huge vibration giving you the jackhammer feel. Check out the vibration section of this diagnostic chart.

Thank you for the feedback. Have check all those points. It’s a jerking as if the clutches are turning loose under a load. Not a slip like in the higher gears or at high rpm’s. Like a grab and jerk. What you would imagine a belt slipping would feel like but it’s not the belt.

I’m wondering if the pressure plate is the problem.

Thank you for the feedback. Will have that checked when the new pressure plate is installed.
