My clutch hub nut came loose this weekend while Jason "BYRDDOGG" some friends and I were riding. Jason and I today, took off primary cover and tightened the nut and tightened the primary chain going to change tranny oil and refill primary oil, ajust clutch tommorrow and give her another try.

Did u hear it come off? Gasman and myself tightened mine up to 200 ft pounds I believe and soaked it in red loctite.
I still think about it and wonder if I should pull primary cover and check it. Makes me nervous some guys have had this issue before.. It can fuck shit up for sure.... Good luck :D

I noticed mine all the same day. My clutch cable felt like it needed a little adjustment and it didn't last but a short while. And on the way home I felt the clutch slip a little once. I didn't have any sign of rubbing on the inside of my outerprimary. Every thing looked fine inside I know later this afternoon or tommorrow, when I take her for a spin. T Mack, I didn't hear a thing.

T Mack I am with you. I did the same and wonder every time I am out riding if it is coming loose again. As long as the clutch is working fine it should be ok.....Once you have to adjust the clutch because it has a lot of slack then I would go in and check the nut. In my case I adjusted the clutch and the following day it was loose again. Shifts like butter now. Even neutral, no problem now. I think every year when you change your primary fluid have the nut checked also. Just m:up:y .02.

One more point I would like to make and many may disagree. Stick with a fluid that is specific for primary's. After adjusting my nut I put the ATF type F that so many suggested. After the scoot got real warm and I got on it, the clutch would still slip in third and fourth gear. Changed to a primary fluid (Bel Ray) and now haven't had any slippage. To each his own though, everyone has there own theory. Good luck.

There is an o-ring behind the clutch hub on the transmission mainshaft that needs to be eliminated. There should also be a shim present against the mainshaft bearing. Since your bike is an '05, the shim may not be there. It needs the shim to align the primary chain correctly. If the shim is there and damaged, replace it. If it is not there at all, install one. It would be a good idea to replace the mainshaft case seal also. You should be able to get the parts from Baker. You might have to go through one of their dealers. Here is a list of Baker dealers in Kentucky.: Baker Drivetrain

After you install the clutch assembly, tighten the clutch hub nut to 150 ft. pounds. This will ensure that the mainshaft is seated in the bearing just in case the maishaft moved. Remove the clutch hub nut, clean it, apply red loctite, and final tighten to 100 ft. lbs. DO NOT final tighten more than 100 ft. lbs because it could cause the threads to stretch. You will be good to go.:2thumbs:

Mine comes loose about every 5k. Even with red loctite. I check it every primary fluid change. As soon as the shifting gets tight with the clutch lever engaged I know it's loose again. 2007 K-9.

No RUB here. Ridin and wrenchin!!! (wrenchin thanks to this website )

Well I got it ll back together and oiled up went to ajust the clutch and it felt tight to me. Ajusted it and you could barely pull the clutch in started her up and nothing she wouldn't move. I tried loosing it up and it made the clutch leaver easier but still nothing. I defently fucked up somewhere but I have no clue.

T-Bird you need to make sure he ramp is in the middle before you make any adjustments. If it's in the forward possition you have no clutch at all. Try that :2thumbs:

Thanks for the advise Carlos.ut I found out what I was doing wrong. I did not have the pusH rod backed out far enough. I just started loosing it and then it got real loose. Then I took it in till it tightened up and backed off .25 turn and adjusted the cable and guess what it worked. Thanks, everbody. T.

If the clutch hub nut becomes loose, more times than not the o-ring between the clutch hub and transmission mainshaft bearing is damaged, along with the clutch hub shim if present. If the o-ring is damaged, the clutch hub nut will work itself loose again. This o-ring MUST be removed and discarded. Do not put another o-ring in, leave it out. Some of the early warning signs are difficulty shifting, excessive play in in the clutch hand lever that wasn't there after the last clutch adjustment, or the bike tries to pull at a stop when in gear. Adjusting the clutch only prolongs it, until that day you are miles from home and it leaves you stranded. Then you could be looking at the very least a new clutch assembly, and most likely transmission bearings and mainshaft. Not to freak everyone out, but this can become a serious issue and can be easily prevented. Follow the instructions posted earlier, and it will be fine. Another important note is that while you are in there, check the mainshaft bearing by moving the mainshaft up and down and side to side. If there is any movement at all, then the transmission bearings need replaced.
