not enough time 4 riding
I leave it in gear holding in the clutch. Feel better just in case I have to move real quick. Hate bein at a stop light and hear a tire sqealin from who knows where. Creates a good case of asstite:rant:

Pretty sure this is what is taught in the MSF rider courses, but I took them 20+ years ago.

I have one of those cable lubers. I do it at least monthly if not more. I also lube the lever which makes a big difference.

:D
And that is why Ray gets his money's worth, PM. (you know you have to do a How To now)

Now of all who had broken cables who lubed and didn't?
Sounds like another poll

Well mine was well lubed when it broke, then again it broke at the end ferrual on the clutch accuator end, one of the most lubricated area since it was sitting in a bath of grease. Think it was just worn out, oh I use the Moly Dry Slide for lube BTW.

I'm with V on the in gear at a light... at least till I got a backer behind me to help hold off the gremlins.

That being said, as soon as that is the case, its into neutral... especially after adding 2 shims to the banditt setup!!

I had a clutch cable break at the ferral on the clutch lever about a year ago at about 5k mileage area. Trailered it in to Tampa Bay Big Dog after a call to Tonya and they put in a new one right while I waited no charge. I bought everyone pizza and everyone was happy.

I leave it in gear when I'm at lights. I've never broken a cable on any of my bikes but i've only had the dog for a month now so we will see.

Mine broke right at the clutch lever. I had right at 15500 miles on her. I am usually in neutral at stops.

Not yet...

Neutral or in gear, well it depends. Being able to find neutral seems to be inversely proportional to how bad I want to be there.

Most often try to slip it in as I'm coming to a stoplight, it's an easy click back into gear before continuing. Always just leave it in gear for the red octogon. Guesstamate 50-50.

Feathering clutch for 3 miles in [hot] 4th. July parade, and then a couple rings around the drag strip, I think I did break some bones, or muscles, or tendons, or sumthin in my left hand...

The clutch cable if kept lubed should not break ... I have seen them burned from being too close to the pipes but even then it would not break. The cable on an HD or pretty much any other scoot isn't any better or worse so I can't see why all these cables are breaking. The clutch actuator is a good design as is the clutch rod that extends and retracts to separate the clutch discs - dam simple design. All that said its got to be either lack of lube or the clutch rod is dry and binding -- time for a pull test to get a baseline we can use to compare against. (doing it now BRB). :) Also note TOO much fluid in the primary makes it harder to work the clutch and ATF works great (I use redline which looks and smells like Dextron ATF).

I haven't broken one on my 05' chopper yet... My buddy broke one on his 06' Mastiff. I picked his bike up from the dealer for him and rode it to his house (about 12 miles). Pulled into his garage and SNAP! Broke the new cable!
