Clutch Cable issue.

Hey y’all.
So went for a ride with a good friend the other day and my clutch cable broke. I ordered a replacement that I thought would be of good quality like my original. And it turns out it was not. The housing was shorter and slightly smaller in diameter. The coating was not clear but milky white and the braid underneath does not appear to be stainless steel. The cable itself is not Teflon coated like my original. The adjustment was not in the same place either. Due to the housing being shorter it looks like it’s being stretched tight in a couple places. The adjustment is up near the fuel tank where it was down right after the frame turned up and got straight. The cable itself I have adjusted 5 times since installation and it needs adjusted again. Even right after adjustment it’s like the cable stretches so much that it doesn’t completely disengage the clutch because it still wants to roll. Also now I cannot shift to neutral unless I turn the engine off. When I put it in gear it like hits like clunk really hard and wants to start rolling. It’s like it stretches so much that it doesn’t travel far enough on the other end to completely disengage. My original I could get neutral anytime anyplace with no issues. So if anyone has experienced this and knows where I can purchase one like my original I would be grateful if you would point me in the right direction. Any information is appreciated.

I did go to the Barnette website but I’m gonna need a little more assistance. I did not find BigDog in the list of manufacturers and everything I searched came up black cables. Can you point me in the right direction to find these on their website or do I need to call them?

Another comment.. if your clutch isn't holding adjustment sometimes the nut holding the clutch basket to the trans shaft could be loose and backing out . You adjust clutch and nut loosens more and your back out of adjustment. This is the nut behind the pressure plate, not the nut that locks the clutch pushrod adjustment set screw. More common on 05 and up but my 03 did this. Red loctite, 80ft lbs LH thread. Some use more torque then OEM spec, particular 05+ Use your own judgment on that.

I appreciate that thought but it was fine until my original clutch cable broke, never any issues after I did the adjustment myself immediately after I purchased the bike which was probably 4 years ago at least. This cable just seems to stretch a lot on the pull which doesn’t move the actuator far enough.

Wouldn’t this work on your bike?
