Awhile ago I remember a thread on chrome or polished foot pegs, shifter/brake pegs, and handlebar grips, and how to keep them from getting scratched up from use. One poster mentioned clear tubing so I went for it and here is the results:
Tubing from Home Depot 1" ID and 1.5" ID, maybe $20, tubing cutter $12, and heat gun (already had). Cut to length and push on. If too tight heat up with heat gun and work onto peg. Tube wall is probably .125" thick. I have no idea if it will scratch up over time and look like crap or yellow out in the elements but it has done the job for me so far.
