Carb problem?

I took the new 2002 Husky out on the highway for the first time today, and all seemed good until I get above 60 MPH. At higher speeds it seems to cut out when I get on it a little. If I slowly increased the speed it seemed to do a little better. There also seems to be some minor back firing at all speeds, but nothing major. The previous owner had installed V&H pipes as well as changed out the stock air filter with a spike air filter. I'm not sure that he did any carb adjustments after these upgrades. In all your expert opinions, is this a problem that could be resolved with a carb adjustment? This bike also had been setting garaged for about three years with minimal riding.

Just a thought,,,,,,,from sitting ,maybe some crap in the carb,if your mechanically inclined, give it a good cleaning,or run some carb cleaner through it and see what hapns,,,,don't sound like anything major.....

Anytime you change exhaust the carb should be reset. S&S has a step by step directions and you can get a you tube video step by step done by s&S very easy. However in my experience the V&h 2 into 2 with my 117 ci had a backfire until I pulled the baffles out and installed thunder monster baffles now 0 backfire and a nice decel growl and 100 % better sound

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll start by running a little carb cleaner through it, and changing the spark plugs to see if that makes any difference. If not, since I am mechanically challenged I will take it into the local shop and see about having the carb adjusted.

I agree with the guys above, ethanol turns to a fuzzy mold looking substance after sitting that long or sometimes a green slime. I work on a lot of snowmobiles and most sleds won't start after being parked just for the summer. Clean the carb.

The spike air cleaners cxan cause a throttle lag at 60 mph because of the flow characteristics. I solved all my issues by turning mine vertical.

Also with the spike air cleaner, you may have to pull the bowl vent screw.

it is most likely your spike. I run dual spikes and it is a painintheass. It is the transition from intermediate to main jet around 2800-3200 rpm (aka @60mph ish) ....
Yes the flow from the spike disrupts the flow.. you will especially notice it during a strond wind from right to left blowing directly into the spike.
