Burn your Thigh?

So the Bulldog is my first air cooled bike and first V-Twin.

I have two ride-comfort items. One is the reach on the pegs, the 2nd is burning my right thigh on the head.

I bought a pair of chaps to try and help, but they don't quite go high up enough on the inside to really protect. I wore them over shorts and ended up with raw skin on the head in a left corner and damn near changed lanes as I jumped to get off the motor.

I have had Zero trouble with pipe-heat, just this one spot on the right hand side head.

Has anyone made a leather seat flap or a shield to keep your leg off the motor? It's definitely one of the sexiest parts of the bike, so I hate to cover it up, but my enjoyment will go up if I don't get burned every 15 miles.

Thoughts?

it gets hot but i can't say that it has ever burned me, but then again , i can't say i have ever worn a pair of shorts with chaps before, let alone shorts.

It seemed like the perfect combo! Protection when riding, take them off at breaks and i'm in shorts. If i'm not working, i'm in shorts. With that said, it gets too hot right there in jeans as well.

If you have to wear shorts while riding, get some mesh gear to cover up and protect yourself. Once you get where you're going, just take the mesh gear off.

Roasted my calf a couple of times on the pipes but never on the head. Do you have a "push" seat on your bike to likely assist with both issues. Your thigh shouldn't be that close to the head unless you're really reaching for those pegs.

I have burned my thigh where your talking about many times, stock seat and with a 2-up seat, didn't matter. I did it on stock pegs and the 3" forward controls also, I just turn my right foot sideways on the peg if I feel it getting hot. Don't matter whether I have pants or shorts on. I thought about making a piece of leather with velcro on it to just wrap around my leg at that point of contact but thats all I did was to think about it.

It ain't a crotch rocket, you can't hug the sides.

That's the price you pay to have a cool bike. I burnt my calf the other day but I've done this on everything I've ever rode. That the price I pay for wearing shorts. How tall are you sounds like the position of your rear in the seat. I've never burnt my thigh. And I have 3 inch extended pegs as well. I'm only 6ft.

Chaps and shorts? I think that was the village people look :)

Maybe you have short legs and the bike has extended controls.

I rode with a guy who was quite chubby and his fat legs were always getting burnt.

Tried shorts on the Dog once. I'll stick to jeans. Besides road rash with shorts has got to be a bitch....

I do have short legs, 28" inseam. I do feel like i'm stretching for the pegs.

It seems to me that a push seat would put me even more ontop of that head, making things worse not better?

I know they made some 1 inch retracts for the front controls. I think that's all you can pull them back. Maybe find a local custom machine shop and have some one off pegs or brackets made that will take some stretch out??

1- You don't wear shorts on a chopper. you're sitting on top of a 200 degree open motor with flaming hot pipes next to your legs. It isn't a crotch rocket. If you go down at least a pair of jeans will help with the layers of skin coming off and those BIG black hard shell bugs don't hurt as bad.

2- Your reach is too long for your legs. Get the controls placed back a few inches and you will have some gap between your thigh and the head.
