BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS ANYONE???

Energy One
FEELING SOME VIBRATION, I GO OVER MY MOTOR MOUNTS ONLY TO FIND THE FRONT UPPER MOUNTING BOLT COMPLETELY SHEARED OFF STILL INSIDE THE HEAD. THE REAR MOUNT BRACKET TAB CRACKED COMPLETELY THROUGH AROUND THE REAR BOLT.

YES, MOUNTS WERE TIGHT AND CHECKED REGULARLY...

Franky Bones, glad you made it here. Is your bikes warranty expired now. IF so it might be worth it to see if BD will cover it anyway. They are good about this!

I have had my head bolts come loose and boy it does vibrate when they do. But no other issues with the coil/motormount.

Good luck,
Ray

Welcome Bones.... Like Ray said.....if you have no warranty left...try to get a hold of Big Dog and see what they say.....:choppersmiley:

I'm in North Jersey by Lk. Hopatcong. My bike is under warranty until Aug 2007. It is in the shop waiting to be fixed.

Big Dog denied my warranty claim for broken motor mounts! Unbelievable.

Yes, the bolts were always checked and tight...

Not unbelievable! Check with your dealer and see how they wrote up the claim. The dealers are BDM eyes and ears, they only know what the dealers tell them. I would be surprised if it wasn't written up to show you didn't do something to prevent it. If they show that it was there fault (the dealer) then BDM would deny it and force them to pay for it. It happened to me when my lifter blocks came loose and BDM denied it cause my bike was just in for maintenance and BDM told my dealer that they should have verified all bolts were tight.
I would get your service/warranty person to show you the claim and see how it was written.

Good luck,
Ray

Raywood, I don't deal with the dealer any longer. I will leave it at that. My authorized service guy is great. As a matter of fact, the BDM rep in the area inspected my bike personally for this and some other issues that I have.

I just wrote to the head of warranty at BDM who has been quite helpful in the past. Last year BDM actually extended my warranty 3 mths due to all the issues that plagued my bike, now I feel like they are leaving me out in the cold. My bike has been in the shop waiting for BDM to approve the claim since June 23, 2007. Today is July 16, 2007 and the parts are not even in the mail yet! I'm becomming increasingly upset with the factory support.

Off topic...anyone had the EHC relocated yet? I have. The bike still shuts off while under heavy acceleration when entering highways.

The EHC is under the seat... you should see what looks like old printer style looking computer cables going into it.

Raywood brings out a good point. Sometimes BDM will turn down a claim if it was something that should have been caught through proper maintenance and if dealer did it, they will push it back on dealer. An example would be you take it in for the 500 mile service and the dealer goes over it all as per BDM recommendations which include checking the bolts for proper torque, then before the next scheduled interval for checking (as per the manual) at 5000 miles, the bolts come loose and causes the problem.

Now assuming that you did nothing (nor the dealer) that would change something (such as loosing it for a mod!!!!), if it came loose, BDM could question, well did the torque actually get checked at 500 miles?

So they turn it down and push back to dealer. A shit dealer could try to push back on customer, however if it was me and the dealer was the same as the last that did it, my questions would be why the F would it break if the bolts were checked to TORQUE by that dealer?

Now the questions come, did the dealer actually take a torque wrench to the bolts or just check them by feel or a quick turn of the wrench. Are you dealing with the last dealer that worked on it, was it done by yourself, etc. ?

If we do some of the service ourself, it is good to get the proper torque wrenchs, sockets, etc and go over all those bolts as recommended at no more than than the recommended mileage period, sooner is better.

Good luck
