Big Radius....Baffle length...Shield Mod

Well I rode 6000 miles with the baffles at full length. Decided to take them out and put a few hundred miles on it. I really want to bake my cake and eat it too. So I decide to cut them in half tonight and see how it ran.
Once I had the heat shields off I decided it was time to take care of that grinding we all hear if we have a sack between are legs and corner hard.:D I took the die grinder to just past where they have scraped over the life of the pipes. You won't notice it with the pipes on and if you are a cheap skate like me it's a free mod. This should keep me from buying the updated shield.

I cut the baffles to exactly 6" from the end of the baffle. That is exactly half. Fired it up and it seems to me to be a little less than half as loud as the difference between full baffle and no baffle. Sounds great. Took it out for a run and I have almost all my low end grunt back but it seemed not to choke like with the full baffle. Decel pop seems better than either as well. Keep in mind it's 36 degrees and I rode it 3 miles.
Here is some video of it idling and some revs.

I bought an electric garage heater off ebay. 14000 btu It warmed that garage up to 70 in no time. :loony:

I'll follow up after more riding this weekend. But for now it seems like a great compromise. The best part was it's free!

sounds good Vegas:up: I have 2 short vid clips in the members video section of my bike running......I cut my baffles down to 4 and 3/4 inches....I like the sound also!:whoop:

Interesting Vegas, I did the same thing a while back and ended up trying the stock baffles, no baffles, modified stock and the BCT baffles. After trying them all, the BCT baffles are what stayed.

I haven't tried the BCT so they could very well be better. Do you prefer the sound or is it performance Fatdog? One other thing that definitely would be different is the stock camshaft vs the .600 cam.

Yes sir. It definitely sounds different than mine. What cam are you running?
I still have the stock .569 cam I will be changing the cam sometime next year....remember....that was from a digital camera not a vid recorder....didn't sound too bad with that little mic on the camera.....

Still have the stock cam. The sound is better and performance does seem a bit better.

I put on about 65 miles today. Best the bike has ever performed. For my setup the baffles cut in half is far superior to full or no baffles. Couldn't be happier. Really seems to have all the low end torque back but still breaths almost as good up top. I'll wait untill it's around 80 and re dyno it so it's dialed in for my average riding temp.

I know when I cut mine I noticed the difference right away and really liked it. Then I went out on a limb and decided to try the BCT just for shits and giggles and I'm glad I did. The sound difference from the stock to modified was good but from modified to BCT was yet another step in the right direction. Just my .02 cents.

Just another plug for the BCT's. I ran them in my drag pipes and the biggest difference I think is the nice sound they provide. Hard to figure that something so simple (and expensive) can change the sound so much but they do. :D

I considered cutting down my stock V&H BR baffels but I am not looking for more LOUD. Pipes are loud enough for me and my neighbors at this point. Besides after 3 to 400 hundred muiles in a day they give me a headache. I assume the BCT or cutting down stock baffels will be even louder then the stock?

Ya it's a little bit louder but not anything like no baffles. The performance is killer though. I wear ear plugs so exhaust and wind noise doesn't bother me.

The wind noise is the worst for me, seems alot worse as the temps go down for some reason...

I am tinking of jumping ship to the MLB's or Streetwalkers - anyone have any info?

"Baffles" ? What baffles? I'm running the V&H Big Radius straight, so I can relate on the neighbors and noise. BUT ... love the sound! :2thumbs:

I ride with earplugs when I'm doing any long distance/highway riding. Wind noise is shown to be a contributor to fatigue for riders.
