Well I rode 6000 miles with the baffles at full length. Decided to take them out and put a few hundred miles on it. I really want to bake my cake and eat it too. So I decide to cut them in half tonight and see how it ran.
Once I had the heat shields off I decided it was time to take care of that grinding we all hear if we have a sack between are legs and corner hard.
I took the die grinder to just past where they have scraped over the life of the pipes. You won't notice it with the pipes on and if you are a cheap skate like me it's a free mod. This should keep me from buying the updated shield.
I cut the baffles to exactly 6" from the end of the baffle. That is exactly half. Fired it up and it seems to me to be a little less than half as loud as the difference between full baffle and no baffle. Sounds great. Took it out for a run and I have almost all my low end grunt back but it seemed not to choke like with the full baffle. Decel pop seems better than either as well. Keep in mind it's 36 degrees and I rode it 3 miles.
Here is some video of it idling and some revs.

I bought an electric garage heater off ebay. 14000 btu It warmed that garage up to 70 in no time. :loony:
I'll follow up after more riding this weekend. But for now it seems like a great compromise. The best part was it's free!
