Hey guys, I really did not wanted to write this post sorry for the wall of text but here it goes
My 07 K9 wont start, it has 5000 miles on it and had been running trouble free always has a battery tender connected when not in use
I am in costa rica so no dealers here
Here is what has been happening.
I used the bike last week it ran fine and start up fine.
This Saturday I came to use the bike, I did the usual thing I do, turn on ignition, press START and then HI bean to pump up the air suspension, once its high enough I press RUN and then start to actually start the engine.
Well this time I pressed RUN and then start and the bike wouldn't start, the started wouldn't turn, there would be some sort of click sound and all lights go off then back on.
This had happen before when I first purchased the bike in Florida, and it was the Battery low on charge, so I Thought well its weird the tender its always connected but w/e
I used a load tester and checked the battery well it drooped to about half the load.
I disconnected the battery and connect it to a charger, meanwhile I took the battery of my Softail tested with the load charger it was fine.
Took it out of the softail and place it on the Dog, i made sure the softail would start before taking out the battery it did just fine.
So with the softail battery on the DOG it did the exact same thing... just a click and nothing.
So I started checking things, the breaker was fine,
I then discovered that the battery would loose all voltage when trying to start turns out the Ground terminal was loose /sigh So I got a new battery put it on the Dog and now the situation changed a little.
When I press RUN and then START the bike tries to Crank but then dies...
I tested the new battery with the load tester it came back worst than the original dog battery :bang:
So I went and got it replace this time the new battery tested fine with the load test..
I placed the new battery on the softail and connected the load test, while doing a start on the engine the load dropped a little but still remain on normal levels
So I place the new battery on the Dog and while it still would not start but it did something different.
Now when I press RUN then START the bike cranks for a second then dies and the hazard lights come on WTF!!!
I connected the load test while doing a start and on the DOG the load drops significantly more than on than on the harley almost all the way down.
So I did the following to test the Starter, I first removed the spark plugs then took a wire from a positive lead, removed the positive connector on the starter and connected the wire, the starter spins just fine, so does the engine, So this leads me to believe that the starter and solenoid are fine however the load still goes all the way down initially and then maintains at normal level.
I checked ground cables they all appear fine.
My mechanic friend think its the starter but i'm still hesitant about that.
So for some reason I forgot about the EHC lights until today and now I'm really confused.
Are the lights suppose to be coming on when everything is ok? or only when theres a problem.
Right now the lights are doing the following:
When I turn on the ignition the "Controller" green light comes on and starts blinking
Also the yellow light next to it "power" comes on and stays on
When I press the RUN button the Ignition LED comes on and stays on, If I press start the starter cranks for about a second all lights on the EHC come on and then off on that same second.
The AIR ride led also comes on if I pump air into the system or out.
so are the LED suppose to be on or is this indicating a fault?
Note that the turn signal LEDS high/low beam do not come on when I use those functions.
This leads me to believe the problem is in the module? could it be fried? or a short somewhere? Ive tested cables and check connectors they all look good or could it still be the starter solenoid?
