I am a still a little new to the site because I have have only had my K-9 for a couple of months. I'm not sure if anyone will gain anything from this but I figure I'll tell you all what happened just in case.

It didn't take long but about three weeks ago I had a guy basically run a stop sign right in front of me. Luckily I was able to miss him but I wasn't able to get off the brake enough for the evasive maneuver necessary to miss a collision. I ended up getting thrown a few yards down the street and the bike topped over onto its left side.

I was very surprised on how little damage the bike sustained. The headlight was scraped up pretty good. All three left side pegs were eaten up and the tag frame was messed up a little. Other than that the bike didn't have a scratch on it. The rear passenger peg extended during the "incident" and pretty much saved the back end. All I had to do was replace the pegs, which I was going to do anyway, and replace the headlight. I just thought it was amazing how well thing held up.

The bike held up better than I did though. I broke my collar bone and had surgery on it two weeks ago. Other than a little road rash that's it on me. Thank God! It could have been much worse.

Anyway, I just thought I would share the info with anyone who was interested. I am glad to be about back in the saddle. Looks like I will be just good enough to make it to Myrtle Beach bike week.

EDIT: I forgot to add the guy left the scene and me laying in the road.

You should feel lucky, very lucky. Parts can be replaced, Fathers, sons and husbands can't. Sorry Fathers and sons can't.

How some people are allowed to have a driver's license is beyond me ....genuinely sorry about your accident, but you hit it on the nose when you said, "it could have been worst." Glad your back in the saddle :flag:

I tell you. This is the first time I ever had an accident on a bike and it scared the crap out of me. First thing I did was start checking body parts after I sat up.

Oh yeah, the guy left me laying in the road too. When I sat up he gunned it and took off. I didn't get a tag number and the one witness didn't get it either.

I posted a thread on here last summer about how many bikers (people on two wheels anyway!) that I observe everyday that just fly through city intersections with out slowing or at least looking in both directions.

Looks like you looked in time though with little damage although I bet that collar bone hurt!

Glad you made it through and are still with us.
Lots of enemies out there that could care less about you.

Welcome back to the saddle and thanks for the after smash report. You never know how a bike will hold up 'cause every smash is different.

Glad your back on her!

glad to hear you are ok, all things considered. hard to believe somebody would leave the scene with a person on the ground. my daughter and her friend witnessed a similar accident in richmond last weekend---the car drove off after the biker was down. as fate would have it in that case, another witness got the tag number and the driver was taken into custody and charged. carelessness is bad enough, but leaving another human injured in the road? ---seems to be so much of that these days. get back on that dog, chuck

Sorry to hear about that accident. Good job on staying alert! Seems many an idiot is out on the roads. I was in my car last month and a stupid girl rearended me. I was stopped on the road a good 2 minutes behind a BUS! She said she didn't see me. Guess the bus wasn't a good enough clue there was a block in the road. :job: Anyways, I told her I was glad I wasn't on my bike. I sure have been watching the rearviews at stops now though!

I'm really glad your ok. It's been a bad week down here, we've had three fatalities in the south-east region in the last week. One of them right here on I-95 at exit 1, kid was on a crotchrocket chasing his buddies and lost control. He met a tree at triple digit speeds, made a hell of a mess. On the sheer stupidity side we had a guy on base this last weekend, first time rider, first bike, another crotch rocket. Apparently he put it in gear while he was playing and buried it in the wall of his barracks up to the tank. Put that kind of mentality together with the sheer lack of attention with Florida drivers and you always have to be on the defensive, looking every which way at once for cars, RV's and other bikes. It keeps life interesting. Sorry for the rant guys. Please everybody stay safe out there. Peace.
