Sorry to hear that bud, I know it sure is a bummer to look at a sweet ride you cant ride and the only guy you trust enough to work on it is 4 hours away. Kinda of stumbling around in the dark has always been my process. lol!! Hope you get em fixed soon

Nothing wrong with the fuel system.

Drained the fuel removed the petcock the fuel is crystal clear, no sediment at all and the screen looks brand new. I always use no ethanol 91 octane, and the bike only has 5,000 miles on it. So it was worth a shot but no cigar...

Back to the ignition system.

I have delayed in sending the ehc to Shannon just hoping i could get it fixed and go riding this weekend.

I've went over all the wires twice and checked the pins for the ignition module. Nothing obvious.

My hand controls have always been quirky would this cause my issue?

I took it off the handlebar no broken wires nothing obvious, but pretty much every time I ride it, I have to hit run start a few to several times before it starts. It has been that way since I got the bike.

When the bike dies, as long as I cycle the key it starts sometimes fires right back up and other times it coughs and sputters then will fire up. It may run for a bit but always dies again.

I don't think my charging system is bad because the battery never dropped voltage when riding it. No Issues with lights horn or anything else.

Getting ready to check the coil as soon as I find my allen wrenches.

Still hoping to find something simple to go riding this weekend.

Yes, check the PCB in right hand grip. There is a video on youtube. Also a pretty easy (and relatively inexpensive) fix.

I soldered a bit of solid wire (might have been a paperclip) to some pieces of auto speaker wire that I had from a project. I am sure there is better but I didn't have the crimps or pins and it worked fine to test.

Yeah check the right side PCB board switches if the off button shorts out it could be the same issue.

Over voltage can be as much of an issue for the EHC as low voltage. The battery is more tolerant than the EHC is as a whole.
A simple voltmeter test at off, running and 2200 rpm is all you'll need to conifrm no charging issue and it's an easy test that requires no disassembly or disconnect of anything.

If it shows over 14.6 v while at 2200rpm your VR & possibly stator are tits up

Checked the coil terminals they were 19.66

Now put it all back together and check the voltage at the battery,

1)off
2)running at idle
3)22/2500 rpm

CORRECT?

Gotta run and get some fuel to put in it to check the rest.

below 1000 rpm idle is between 13.96 to 14.0

2500 rpm is 14.25

Pull and clean the cranks sensor -- sensors are sensitive to build up and are on the maintenance list to clean regularly.
This is sort of the last "free" fix I can think of without being there.

I can but its brand new.

I just installed it a week ago.

The old one I took out was clean as a whistle.

I guess its time to install a new ignition module and or bite the bullet and buy a new ehc.
