today was the second time i called Baker and the tech insisted THAT PURCHASING AND INSTALLING THE BALL AND RAMP ONLY WILL CREATE DRAG ON THE CLUTCH UNLESS THE PACK OF PLATES IS ALSO INSTALLED...I ordered anyway...you guys that have installed without the plate package ...am I gonna have issues??????????

When I put the regular ramp or old style from the open belt drive kit
it was hell to pull
this had 11 clutche plates with .060 steel plates
I switched back to the 9 clutch plate set up with .125 steels
Stack hight for clutches is 1.970
So I am saying thats the number you need to make it work
(thinner steel more wafer plates thicker steels less wafers)
so I could go back to the easy pull ramps
The reason the easy pull doesn't work or is on the ragged edge is because of the extra plates( need more room for the clutches say .008 per set
The easy pulls a best of .080 while the regular or old style pulls .140
which is a increase of .060 which gives a nicer gap when clutch is pulled in
I hope this helps in deciding which ramp pull to use
In other wors the more clutch packs the easy pull won't pull cluch in far enough
The reason it doesn't pullhard is the easy pull ramp pull plates are blended and makes the balls roll up the ramps easier and also less lift

I put in the easy pull & 9 plate pack in the k9 last year, "works great"
the weakest part of the bigdog drive train is the clutch, [so be warned]

Just ordered the Inner & Outer assy straight from Baker for $46 shipped! I'll see how it goes with the stock 12 plate clutch. If it starts slipping then next will be the 9 plate clutch pack on ebay from Energy Suspension for $130 shipped. Not too bad for a total of $177 compared to the BDM prices :>)

Just installed the soft pull inner/outer assy in about 15 minutes minus the 2 hrs it took to get the damn Chaos II pipes aligned properly. Took the scoot for a ride and boy what a difference! Can't believe I went this long without one. I hardly ever see 3500 rpms and had no probs with the clutch slipping. I adjusted the clutch rod out 1/4 turn from snug and have no problems getting the bike in neutral at stop lights. I think a big part of this is from switching from the Redline to the Spectro Primary oil. After draining out the Redline a few months ago, I have had no problems getting the bike into neautral even before it's warmed up.

Jimi, what's the verdict here please? I just installed the Bandit clutch, I'm not going to throw that clutch pack away; were you able to adjust the new ramp satisfactorily with the stock clutch pack? Thanks.

To be honest with you the package is still sitting here on my computer desk and not yet installed...as soon as the weather warms up a little and I start getting ready for this spring/summer I will go install the thing....so you are saying you have a clutch pack to sell huh?

Understood, thanks; if you have a need for a stock used clutch stack, I have one I'll give you. I'm not much into charging folks for my used parts within reason bro. PM your address and I'll get it out to you (before spring...:D )

I've run the Amsoil 20/50 synth in my primary (same as engine) for a cpl yrs and 16k+ miles. Then again, notice I just replaced it with a Bandit - which I will not run that in.

Thanks for the verdict on the ramp w/stock plates PhatA**

I finally got around to installing the B/R since I had the trans out and the bike torn down,I have only went around the block to make sure trans worked fine along with all the clutch assembly TRAINGUY gave me,and bike runs fine, but notice a slight slip in 4th gear when really getting into it,I am pretty sure it is due to the new B/R installation.I am not a big hotrodder,so the benefit of the easy pull clutch lever far outweighs pulling wheelies and burning tires!!!!!!!!Did I mention what a great dude TRAINGUY was??????

I want to try the softpull but I am afraid to f something up!!! Anyone have a how to on this?:flag:
