Also - Does anyone know where to get the BD software and or any firmware updates for the EHC?

I'm looking at another aspect of picking this apart and anything would be helpful.

No updates yet. I'm starting a new job Monday and I have been prepping for that. Also i have been trying to work out a test jig so I don't have to go to the bike shop everytime I want to test the EHC's.

I am trying to trace everything out on the main board, or what I call the power board, and draw up a schematic. In this process I'm trying to learn Eagle CAD as well, so it might take a while.

The next board is the microcontroller board, or the bottom board. I'll get a list of components for that when I get to the microscope.

- side note -
The datasheets for Tycho Polyswitches indicate that they are NOT supposed to be potted. They require room for expansion and need to be able to dissipate heat or they may have reliability issues. I suspect this may be a potential point of failure (among others). I noticed that on the WP module the polyswitches are only potted at the base of the polyswitch allowing them to be exposed to air.

Was thinking about something over the weekend and I have a random question not to hi-jack the thread but I am curious.

Is it possible to buy just the connection that plugs into the EHC? I am specifically looking for the male version. Where the hell would I buy these? And what exactly are they called?

They are made and sold by Positronic.

They are a complex conector system because of the different pin sizes, connector pin tail length and wire gauge crimp capacity.

Those connectors in the photo are Male connectors...is that what you want? or the BDM harness ends which are Female.

On the above shown pics with the 2 male connectors shown,that was the only thing that went in my EHC...seems one of the pins deteriorated for some reason.To get by until I got a new EHC I used a paper clip in place of the pin and rode the bike all summer..Of course this was way back in prehistoric days when there were things called WARRANTIES and Bike Shops that honored them...Well actually also a Company called BDM that paid them!!!!!!!!!...I like this thread,its very interesting and has my attention,even know I havent a clue what you are saying...I feel the end result will be either we can repair our electronics if they should go on us or replace them with something comprable....keep up the good work......

Nope I'm looking for the Male Connectors. I'm just curious to try something.

I know 05+ they went to a 2 connector Harness, which is the one I am most interested in obtaining. I assume the FI models may have an extra pin or two.

Ill look around for Positronic stuff see what I can't dig up thanks! I might just spin my wheels but just trying to think some things through on all of this.

I thought the thinking was done by wire plus.

Power harness = CBD36W4M3600T20
Backbone harness = MD50M3200T20-526.5

I emailed them a couple of years ago to ask how I could get these connectors and never heard back... :down:

Wire plus did some thinking, I would say it's fully inclusive. They still make you cut and splice 50+ 22 AWG wires. What if there was a plug and play harness available?

Now granted I would agree cutting and soldering the connections will be 100x more reliable, however if someone is in a pinch I guarantee they would rather have a true plug & play rather than spending 6 hrs cutting wires when the weather is sunny and just save the extra soldering for the winter or a rainy day.

With all that I love my Wire Plus, I installed it over the winter no problems :up: Not bashing the product what-so-ever.

Plug and play would definitely have been my first choice if available. Hope you come up with something. After installing the wire plus i ordered a set of spare harnesses.

Last night I looked through their product catalogs. It appears BDM must have got a custom harness made because their standard 50 pin connectors are shorter but wider than the BDM :bang:

Looks like it will be difficult to get your hands on these without having them make them up, I'm sure they don't do small orders.

You can get both male and female connectors for 50 and 36 pin combo-D from Digikey.com.

The 50 pin connectors are just D-sub 50 pin. nothing special. You can get them in solder cup or crimp style connectors, normal/zinc/gold plated.

The 36 pin connector is called a Combo-D. I do not have the model numbers for that right now. It uses 32 pins for signaling and 4x8ga pins for power, same plating options.

Sorry for lack of updates guys, this new job of mine has taken all my spare time. Been playing catchup for the past 2 weeks ... bleh! I'd rather be having fun working on this controller.
