Avon Cobras

Has Avon worked out the kinks with their new Cobras yet? I am going to be replacing my rear tire soon and was not pleased with the Metzler I have on now. It really seems to be the lesser of 2 evils here.

I would have to say yes if you get new stock and not "Old" new stock.
I have a set that are about 1 year old with 4000 miles on them and I have no splitting.

I need new rubber on the back too.

Last Avon rear 250 seems like it lasted half the life of the first, but no splits or cracks for 2 years, now it is worn out.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I am considering a "Dunlop Elite 3 250 rear". We don't have many choices in a 250 rear (Avon, Dunlop, ?____ ; others are 240...).

I want a back tire with a cool tread pattern. I liked the old Avon Venom rear tread pattern most; then current Dunlop Elite 3 second; Avon Cobra third. Metzler is a cool tread pattern but no 250 size.

For me it is not necessarily: price, performance; but more the look...

seems like with the 300, you take your chances with the metzeler being too wide and having to grind the belt side down so it doesn't rub, or the possible cold splice joint failure from the 300 avon cobra. hear both good and bad from both sides,

My 300 Metzler rubbed my belt. I wasn't impressed with after maybe a year the sidewalls on both sides had significant cracking. Im still riding on it and the left tread is almost worn away. I worry about it, but not enough to drop the cash on a new one. Now that the tread is gone its time to replace. I'm afraid of the horror stories of the Avon but wasn't happy with the Metz either. Avon I can get for around 250 the Metz is around 300. Both companies can't guarantee manufacture dates on either, but knowing that Metz doesn't make the 880 anymore I have to assume it would be older than the Avon.

I am thinking I have about 7k on the metzler 300 and still plenty of tread left. the trouble is that it still rubs some. when I got the metzler, I ground off a fair amount, checked the alignment and then took off for what would be a 4400 mile trip.

my hunch is that I need a little adjustment on the shims on the transmission.

I like the tire but concerned about eventually facing replacement.

I have the Dunlop and I really like the look & feel and they are holding up strong, almost two years on them and tread is still good.

7K on your 300 Metzler  I've had 2 Metzlers and can't get 5000 miles out of them. 4500 miles on the one I have now and its wore out. I'm thinking about trying Avon again.

I have the metzlers on the bbc and haven't been pleased with them at all really made for a rougher ride and will be going back to the avon! I have a brand new Dunlop 250 on the Pitt but by the time I get a chance to ride it, I will probably have to change it due to dry rot

there is an oval pressed into the sidewall with (4) digits in it. first 2 are the week of the year and the second 2 are the year it was made. (3612) would be the 36th week of 2012. :2thumbs:

Kickstart it's 0113 and my new tire is the same. I'm trying to get another 1000 miles out of it.
