"I would love to say that this tool works great. But unfortunately it didn't work at all on my CRF 450. The steering tube on the aluminum frame Honda's is a smaller diameter than the races. This means the "fingers" on the tool would have to have a bend in them. Tool was incorrect shape to work in this situation. I would have bent the fingers myself but the tool is made out of spring steel. This is what you will need. Made by the American company JIMS. Works great as long as you buy the 3 pieces, Driver handle, Race remover tool, and tool driver spacer. I have used this thousands of times and has never failed.Does anyone here know of a good way to remove the NECK Bearing outer race on a 06K9?Any ideas welcome!

Fast,sure,easy way,IF you have access to a welder.:2thumbs:
Cut a piece of 1/4" flat strap that fits in the cup/race.Weld both sides,and nail it with a drift from the opposite end.
It's also the way I remove valve seats.

John, I want to tell you right here and now that you were always right and I was definitely confused when I first questioned your knowledge about how a piece of valve guide could get into the the oil tank. Hell, I was green and still am but I always question due to my lack of knowledge. After I told you not to get your panties in a wad, other forum members told me who you are..........the guy with a lot of answers. :2thumbs: When I joined BDB just a short while back, everyone was a stranger but some less than others. Since I've been reading your replies (because you obviously don't have any questions), you've been spot on (Is that the right termilogy Lee? ) That's the closest thing I can do for an apology. Damn holidays always make me soft!

I've seen that "tool" crack/break.:angry:
If you look at the races I removed by welding,you'll see that the strap actually bends.The races are installed with a healthy interference fit.Realize also,when you're welding the strap in,the race shrinks between the weld.So to answer your question,NO,it "ain't" coming out with an unwelded bent V.

Got them out tonight! Will post in the "How to". This is what the bearings looked like in the neck of the 06K9. John I did think of welding a flat washer that was small enough to fit down into the race, then tap out with drift but was using this as a last resort. I was afraid of putting voltage into the frame. I would have unplugged the EHC and disconnect the battery but these BD's are so electrically temperamental didn't know what would happen. I made a wedge out of a piece of key stock and got them to move.

Ruff....what's prompting you to change them out....I never had a set wear out....so I was wondering what the tell tale signs were ?Does anyone here know of a good way to remove the NECK Bearing outer race on a 06K9?

My manual says to inspect, adjust, & repack them at 10k miles. As you can see in the picture there is some damage to the bearing races mostly from corrosion. These bearings take a lot of stress and you could feel some popping when turning the bars side to side, so we decided to change them.
