Well, add another to the list! I have a spare belt and the tools with me on the trip, but couldn't get it on on the side of the road.

So, bedded down for the night. Downloaded the instructions from S&S and it looks like I have to remove the idler pulleys first. Makes sense now!!

That sucks for sure. Has this occured to you before or is it a known issue that is starting to arise more and more with the few X-Wedge. Any idea of why it shredded, I would thing they would last a very long time.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted out and back on the road very soon.

Best to you and pass the same onto the misses. Hope to ride with you agian soon, since I will be headed home here in about 2 weeks out of this shit hole.

Safe travels

Where did you end up getting stuck?

I know nothing about the X-Wedge. Is the belt similiar to a timing belt on a car? Similiarly could you have any other issues due to it snapping? IE Bent Valves, etc?

If I remember right you put new cams a while back already. My question is this did you install the easy start up cam with it or not? I'm asking that because I been told it would prevent from having the belt snapped.
Thank you.

If you were (or are) still in my area, we could use my shop and tools and work on it together. Breakdowns on a long trip like that are no fun.

Keep us posted and we hope it is an easy fix (and not a recurring problem).

Oh, by the way, Thanks for the Oct issue of The Horse Backstreet Chopper mag you left for me when you stayed at our place! I have enjoyed it and guess I'll have to subscribe!

The shred occurred 14 miles from Winslow AZ, so not a big deal. I talked with Chris at S&S this AM and I'm now in Carlsbad NM, so it was an easy fix since I had the parts.
ALERT TO WOLF RIDERS!
There is a modification to the cam plate the S&S came out with to fix the belt tensioner. Requires a dremel tool and some time, but pretty easy. I'll do it when I get back to VA and post picks. YOU WILL WANT TO MAKE THIS MOD!

So far all good with the new belt, but S&S is going to FEDEX me a couple to Austin TX, just in case :)

Tim - I'll holler at 'cha when I get back to go rising.

All the best to all!

Cha Cha,same thing happened to my Wolf about three weeks ago in North Phoenix. Had to have it towed home. Fortunately I had towing Coverage and a spare belt. Ordered and received a new belt and tensioner from S&S.

My bike have 7K miles and had no problem with my cam belt yet. What should I do to prevent the problem, replace it periodically would be a good thing?
Jsmuth how much in term of power the 128 ci kit does compare the original?

Why don't they make a gear drive option? I would rather have the whine than a busted belt on the side of the road.

I think because they wanted a dry belt system if you go with gear or chain it need to be a "wet" system, that was the major reason (I think).

Another Wolf down with shredded belt at 5000 miles. More details when it's back up and running.

On a funny note. It was a beautiful sunny Sunday (9th) around 6pm. Friend was at the lake and couldn't get to me for a few hours. I wasn't going to let the Wolf sit on the side of the road while I went home to get my truck. So....WTF, might was well start pushing as I was around 4 miles from home. I've done a lot of marathons, Ironmans and other endurance bullshit....but I couldn't walk normal for 3-4 days. 50% of the time I could sit on it, yet the license holder got in the way. 50% on was pushing along the side, esp on the little hills. THAT was a good workout! Got a few chuckles, yet it sure makes one hell of a good story pushing a 650lb bike for 3.5 miles. Friend showed up with .5 miles to go. I passed a lady pushing her baby with another kid riding a bike. They all looked at me and I said back "the only difference is that my baby weighs 650lbs". Perhaps a good contest at the Chip next year....fastest bike push! I'm all trained up.

My hats off to the person who invented round wheels. It could have been more difficult.....

Yet another Wolf cam belt failure

Boomer, my 09 Wolf went down two weekends ago with a shredded belt at approx 5,000 miles too...except I was not gonna try pushing mine 100 miles home. :nono:
Trying to get S&S to step up and provide more of a fix than just a belt replacement
Interested to see what they offer you...besides the easy start cams, ChaCha says S&S has a modified cam plate now.

Yep. There is a fix for the tensioner that requires a clearencing mod to the cam plate. I'll post a how to when I get home and do it.

Yep. Had a chat with Brent at S&S today. He's not so sure the cam plate fix is the answer for everyone. They've talked with Gates on the belts and he thinks the belts I have are better. I'm gonna ride it for another 30k and see what happens. They have a test bike with 55k on the original belt.

Sounds like the jury is still out!

Do you think to replace the belt every once in a while would help to prevent the problem?
