Bad news for the employees and AIH, but good news for our value in the long run I think.

Exclusive. American Iron Horse Motorcycle Closing Its Doors
Published by Cyril Huze February 4th, 2008 in Editorial, Customs and Builders.
Sad news at a time where we are in Cincinnati celebrating our love for the V-Twin industry. American Iron horse was the main competitor of Big Dog Motorcycles in the market segment of "production custom motorcycles". Follow the confirmation I received from one of their employees. " American IronHorse closed its doors officially this past week. Laying off pretty much everyone with the exception of a couple of big salaries. Employees were told possible return in march but nothing definite . This during a 2 week layoff already in place. Doesn’t look good".

That doesn't sound good. I have two of my brothers that have AIH. One jsut got his about 4 weeks ago. Do they have any proprietary parts like BD?

Damn that's too bad...industries supported by discretionary income are going to weather some hard times this year if the economy doesn't turn around soon. FYI...I'm doing my part to help the industry-have been buying a $hit load of mods :flag: :D

Treat your AIH like an inexpensive one-off custom.........I rode with a guy out of Ft Worth on a $60K WCC......he didn't get any support, nothing standard, and we spent allot of time on the side of the road over stupid shit on his bike. If you compare that..... than AIH is a bargain. I'm happy with the BD, but if I had purchased a AIH I would be prepared to do a little maintenance, maybe a few mods, change out the problem components. When BD was having EHC issues a shop in SC suggested I bypass the unit.....re-wire and do without rather than replace it.

I would buy a Horse under the conditions I was on my own "as is". I think they are very cool looking bikes, great paint schemes. So what if you have to swap out a speedo or some wiring......big deal. At the bargain/clearances prices you can't go wrong. I do feel sorry for those who bought their bike expecting the company would be there for ever and paid top dollar, but live with it. I thought when I invested my life savings in Enron it would be safe.....shit happens. Ride it like you stole it :whoop: and hope the wheels don't fall off. :hi:

I figure something was not right when last week I rode by my local AIH dealer and their doors were closed, too....no loss and I'm glad I test rode a BD after looking at the AIH when I made my purchase.

As I understood - AIH was tough to get warranty issues resolved. The period was a long and lengthy process. And to get them to pay the customer back for any problems was like pulling teeth from a crazed rabbid dog. It is sad to see a company like that go under. They did have some nice looking bikes.

The Dealer who sales BD's here use to be a Ironhorse dealership. In fact they called themselves Ironhorse. They were owned by one of the big Harley dealerships here in Houston. Once Houston Big Dog shut down they started servicing the BD's and then selling them. AI horse got pissed off and pulled out of the store. The service manager was always telling me that it was a bitch to deal with their warrantee procedures and he was happy to see them go. They do still service them however.

Chuck - Does Danny Blair still work there? He's a good man, Honest and straight forward and what was the name of that cat in service, I think it was John Miller. He's another class act. Niether one of them ever fed me any shit. Tell them I said hello and tell Danny to clear out his email, been trying to send him some stuff for a while already.

Yea, Danny and John Millar are still there. In 07 they all moved to a new facility. They sell everything from Big Dogs to ATVs. Anthony the head tech is still there also. Tim (Bubblehead) purchased his k9 at the new place.

Local dealer here had same problems. AIH would approve warranty repair, ship the parts but very slow to pay the labor back to the dealer.:job:

Maybe someone should go over to "Club Chopper" and post this info for all those Big Dog hating Ironhorse loving wannabees over there.

maybe more folks will look at Big Dog which will help them and us. I bet Thunder Mountain is next .. my local BD dealer sent all their Thunder Mountain bikes back - couldn't sell them, way too much $$.
