So I decided to take my wife out on my bike that I just got last week to show her how bad ass it is, well about 5 mi into the ride the bike starts cutting out and completely dies! I am thinking "holy shit not again"!!! so I try and start it and everything is acting weird, it won't start but turns over slow at first then not at all, I check the battery conections and notice that the positive terminal is melted slightly and loose, so I jiggle it around and the bike starts! So, we haul ass home and when I shut it off, it's dead! I take the battery out and notice that both terminals are messed up but the positive is the worst, I go to the local Harley shop and show them the battery and he tells me that it is aftermarket junk and should never be used on a bike like mine, I buy a new one, install it and the bike runs great! Makes me wonder though if the charging system is working:confused:So I guess the dealer that I bought from in Texas slightly missed that the battery was junk on their so called "24 point worry free inspection"! Anyway I am just glad I am back up and running, I will take it down to the Harley dealer and have them check it out to make sure it's charging ok,:2thumbs:

Nice scoot and glad it all worked out.
What brand battery was it?

I replace my battery every two years with a Harley AGM battery.

You know I don't remember what brand it was, I could barley read it, but the guy at the Harley dealer was telling me it was junk and that if I use the Harley battery it would last a lot longer, he said up to 5 yrs or so, so that's what I replaced it with.

One of the things that will cause what you experienced is the seat. Especially if you are a heavy person . Look at he back side of the seat and make sure the battery terminals are not touching the seat or metal seat frame. Someone else on here had the same thing happen and the seat was hitting the poss terminal shorting out the battery.

For shits and grins I took the back felt cover of my seat and glued a rubber met that I got at sears which is used on tool boxes. Then I took some M-3 spray Glue and put the felt backing back on. :2thumbs: I only did the area of where the battery goes not the whole seat.

Carlos :whoop:

You know what Carlos, I noticed the positive terminal is digging into the seat and I was wondering if that was possibly a problem, I am gonna get some of that rubber crap and do the same thing, thanks for the info!:2thumbs:

With the Harley battery you may be able to secure your wiring to the side posts on the battery...

Well Tim, she could tell that I was a little fustrated so she looked at me and said, "I'm sorry sweetheart, you'll figure it out when we get home!" As far as me showing her how "bad ass" my bike is, that's gonna have to wait till next time:D

Funny , That's exactly what my wife would have said.
I'm running the HD battery in my bike also . For the money you can't beat it.
Keep us up to date when you get her out with no issues.
Nice bike - Enjoy .

For the record, "Harley" battery's are Penn mfg. batteries. They sell they under several brands including Harley. I bought mine at Batteries plus.

I can't post what my wife said when the dog died 1 mile from home and we pushed it back home in 98* heat..... Thought I was going to have a heart attack... or she was going to shoot me when we got back home...

Make sure they check your voltage regulator.

If it is does not stop charging when the battery is full then it will melt stuff, just ask Tapio. And for what it's worth, it seems that loose connections kill voltage regulators.
