Can someone clear up some confusion for me? Thanks!

#1. My 2006 motor is the 117ci stamped with "Super Stock" on it. I've read online that motor is also referred to as a "Super Sidewinder". Are they one and the same or two different models? S&S webpage doesn't list a Super Stock (or is that another custom spec by BDM?).

#2. Being that my bike is a 2006 Mastiff, I found the service manual online for it labeled as 2005/2006 Mastiff. I also read in another post somewhere on here, that the 2007 Mastiff svc. manual is a better version. Which manual should I go by?

#3. The headlamp assembly is factory original & the lamp is an xtra bright H4 halogen that is quite bright but it emits more of a wide horizontal beam (for both low & hi). The reflector is a smooth=faced type, not the faceted kind. I don't want to buy the $$ LED projection type since I'm not keen on their appearance (despite their excellent functionality). I also realize from experience that the LED lamp modules often do not collimate properly further causing down-road, useful illumination. Any ideas on getting back to a more rounded beam for overall better down-road visibility?

For number 3 the best lens assembly I found was CandlePower H4's -- they are german designed I bleieve, I think J&P cycles has a stock of them since there was an issue with their factory a while back.

A LED projector from an internet vendor (ie clone of the daymaker) can be had for appx $50

You could go to an HID lamp -- had one in my last K-9 and LOVED that thing even more than the LED I have now -- about to test one presently - it combined with the candlepower reflector gave me GREAT light.
When I get the bike setup with it I will post some comparison photos.

Super Stock was the term used for many of S&S 's products over the years.

The SuperSidewinder I believe refers to the specific config from S&S of a 117. So for all practical purposes they are nearly identical (cam might be different from S&S vs from BDM -- little things like that)

Please someone correct me if I am mistaken.

I've got an 08 K-9 so I can't speak to mastiff manual differences.

#1 - Super stock is the only stamping in letters but look at the top I bet it shows "SSW+". Which is a Super SideWinder Plus which came out with the 117 and are on the 05 and newer Dogs. The earlier dogs just have a "SSW" stamped and it's just a Super SideWinder. The difference between the plus and the no plus is the breathing system. The Super Sidewinder PLUS on the 117 breaths through the hoses in the heads whereas the 107 is older and just a Super SideWinder that breaths through Banjo bolts in the heads.

#2 search the forum for the Manual's DropBox they are all available all years and models. The 2008 is the best and will apply to your 2006 but download them both and have at it.

You have to be careful with those high power halogen type bulbs. They tend to melt the harness and draw a TON of power. Most of us have switched out to the daymaker type https://smile.amazon.com/Wisamic-5-...=daymaker+led&qid=1552487108&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I 100% disagree with your assessment of the LED not throwing enough light, especially with the daymaker. It's literally night and day.

I have a 2006 mastiff and have the manual for both a 2006 mastiff and a 2008 K9 (I have a 2006 K9 as well). The manuals got a bit better as the years went on so that's why most guys have both. You will want the 2006 mastiff one, however, as there are some things specific to that bike.

Proflyer,
I've read posts on this board about the Daymaker. My concern about them are the reports of shortened life for LEDs & the plastic melting or being UV light compromised.
I'm skeptical about the H4 style drop-in LED modules that either don't collimate properly to the reflector as well as cooling fan failure. I haven't disassembled my headlamp yet so I'm not sure if it's still the factory H4 socket or perhaps replaced with a ceramic one. I too am aware of certain higher brightness halogen bulbs associated with increased power/heat/shorter life issues. I agree they can be a risk I'd rather avoid. One thing that's certain, when sn incandescent bulb fails, the filament simply & safely opens like a fuse. Hi power automotive LEDs have constant current ballasts that can short a system and the cheap ones often generate electrical hash noise back onto the electrical system.

Having used a number of different LED's over the years, there are a few out there that do not provide more effective light since they are an LED on H4 carrier with no consideration of the optics/reflectors involved.

Totally agree on that. I'm talking about the daymaker type. It is a huge difference for sure. The HID bulds we had several years ago were bright too, but the ballast in the bucket caused so many electrical issues I was about to pull my hair out. Finally pulled that light and haven't had one since.

Never had any trouble with my HID on the last K-9.
