Most people don't realize there really isn't that many places to ride around this beach town, other than with the local H.O.G. chapter which is very small, you would think there would be more bike clubs around here but there aren't, only a couple of small ones.

I would much rather ride up in the Black Hills of South Dakota or Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains any day than around this place...
Yea I was just thinking warm weather year around.

But not in every case, however, just look at the Jeep Wrangler, I've been looking to latch on to one in manual for a while now but the prices on 'good' used ones aren't that much less than if you buy one brand new (average $30k).
I guess we will have to disagree since my girlfriend bought a Jeep Wrangler for around $5,000......and I haven’t seen a brand new one over $28,000 with all the added junk.

Also, in summer you have to be very careful when you ride, the temps are blistering and the sun will literally cook you if you don't pack the sunblock on.

Even on a relatively cool summer day here, you sweat your nuts off when you ride.

This is why most people 'who are able' go up north for the entire summer rather than sweat it out down here.
I think I understand now. You have written extensively about reasons not to buy....”Also” this and that and on and on.

The bottom line is, you just don’t want to buy so don’t.

This thread is turning into pointless kicking of a dead horse...
Unless you figure you need to buy my -03 for 50.000 and then sell it to Leno for 150.000
You either buy a new Dog and take the financial hit or you don’t.
Nobody (except wife maybe) can make the decision for you. Good luck which ever way you choose.

I have? I thought I was simply weighing the pros and cons of it.
I haven't made up my mind yet that is why I said I have pause, your post sounds like you are annoyed or something.
If I wasn't serious about buying one, I wouldn't be on here talking about it.
IMO if I were in your shoes I would definitely not buy new. I might not even buy a Big Dog. Dont get me wrong I love these bikes but they will take a lot of care and you need to be able to turn a wrench or have lots of money for a mechanic (maybe you can I dont know). If you buy a used Big Dog and dont know bikes that well I would hire someone professional to look at it for you.

I bought my first BD from a small dealer and had it shipped to me. There is a lot that pictures dont show and even video. I would never do it again because there was far more wrong with it than I realized and had I seen it in person and rode it I would have never bought it. I had to put a lot of work into it and money. I am selling it and I am going to lose my ass but it was a great learning experience for me because I love to wrench on cars and trucks of my own and got to talk with a lot of great people here on the forum who helped out.

I would go to any dealers around your area and check out all the types of motorcycles I could. Then go to a place like rumble on and save a lot of money on an almost new bike with out all the dealer shit. They have lots of Harley's if you like them. Just my :2cents:
Sorry for the rant but I have learned a lot in the last year. I am a returning rider and hell I might decide one day that's it I'm done or I may ride until I fall off. Why because I can :chopper:

Don't stress to much about it just take your time and check out all the bikes you can in Person. I cant stress that enough.

Whenever I purchase something brand new I never really consider its resale value especially if it’s a specialty item but expect to lose 50-70% the day it’s titled to you.

I said same thing in post 30, cut and run.
I heard over there in Florida the salt humidity will trash the aluminum.
I have some friends in the Florida area and the east coast of Texas and you are correct those bikes look like total shit from the salt air and moisture/humidity from the ocean. Some dealers won’t even consider taking Florida bike on trade they are so rough.

Yes and no. Some bikes have problems some don’t, some have problems on one bike not in another... My -03 doesn’t seem to require any more service than my HD, my K9 does... figure that. K9 was abused when I bought it, -03 was unused... Crowbar has no moving parts, I managed to bent mine. Now it’s pretty much worthless.

There is no alimony in Louisiana at least when I divorced in 2001. There is something called Spousal Support but I never had to pay any of this nonsense.

Congrats on the new ride. Search this forum on TP rocker boxes. All new upgraded wiring could be many things.
