5 degree triple trees

Hi all. I was wondering about changing out my triple trees with the accutronix ones. My trees are 3 degrees. What would happen if I used a 5 degree rake tree? Would it pull my handlebars closer to the tank?

You could mess up the trail... use a rake n trail calculator. Alhall or Vickie could tell you alot more about this stuff.

is there a reason they put the rake in the trees rather than the neck of the frame? - I have read anything other than zero degree rake in the trees is dangerous

Bikes with a lot of rake in the neck need extra degrees i the trees to bring the trail into the "safe" zone.

Trail gives a motorcycle stability because of the self-centering effect caused by the front wheel being behind (or trailing) the steering axis. Too little trail, and this self-centering effect is decreased to the point of instability. Too much trail, and the effect is so great that steering becomes heavy.

If you change the trees from 3 to 5 you will need some longer fork tubes to get it right, you'll need about 2 inch longer tubes

It's like this, you can make your bike roll down the road like a Cadillac, and it won't handle like a Ferrari in the corners or vice versa. Correct trail you want to keep in mind. Sul did this mod 05CHOP
