2010 Bagger Fuel pump wont engage.

Couple of days ago I noticed when I hit Run button the fuel pump would not engage so I could start the engine. I would turn it off at the key and try again and it would engage and then I could start the motor. I knew the PCB was going bad because if you tried to kill the engine with the Off button you had to wiggle it around to get it to shut off.

So I installed the new PCB today and guess what it still does not engage the fuel pump. Does anyone have any ideas I can try to see it anything else is wrong? Are there any fuse's for the pump I can check?

Hi Ernie. I to have a 2010 Bulldog. So far no problems. I have the wire plus installed. You have the stock EHC? Maybe something there.

Yea everything is stock. When I turn the key on there is a solid yellow and a green flashing. Then I hit the run button and a solid red light comes on. Everything else works, turn signals, head lights , stereo, brake lights. Fuel pump just wont engage.

I have the exact same issue, Shannon came by and helped trouble shoot why I couldn't get the boost pump to engage. What he found on my Bagger was power going into the VFI but no power coming out. Once he bypassed the VFI the boost pump engaged. I ordered one from Curtis (Wild Steed Worxs), it should be here next week. I will report back after I get it installed. Hey Cruz Dog where are the relays located? OK I think I found them behind the right side electrical cover but how do you test them to see if they are bad.

Aspen874 I sure hope its not the VFI.

Any other relay's the same? Can you try swapping them out? Other wise you can buy them at any auto store for a few bucks just to easily see and you will know it's knew anyways.

If its not a relay, then I would make sure you have power into and out of the VFI.

Looks like both relay are the same. Just switch them and see if the problem moves. Looking at the relays they might have small numbers by the base of the stabs? IF not the 3 at the top should be the common and N.O. and N.C. the lower two should have a higher resistance between them witch would the 12 vdc coil.

I read another post from a while ago and it said the Fuel pump goes through the VFI so I dont know if the relays would come into play.

I was looking in the manual for a 2009 since there is not a 2010 manual. You can see for the fuel pump there is only ABCD but these are five pin. Maybe Shannon will chime in with some info. I am just not good at this electrical stuff.

Thanks Cruz its getting late so Im off to bed. I did find a simple video how to test the relays and mine are ok.

Maybe this will help anyone else like me when testing fuel pump relays or any five pin. Now to find something else to check.

Just for a little clarity.

On EFI bikes the fuel pump, coil, O2’s, and injectors are all controlled by the aforementioned relay (see the schematic above The relays are a common automotive relay which are virtually bullet proof.

The EHC provides battery power and ignition power to the VFI (EFI) unit. If you look closely in the schematic above, ignition power is a 100% pass through, meaning the VFI never touches it. This is the positive side of the relay control.

The VFI controls the negative side of the relay. At key on, it will provide a 2 sec pulse to prime the pump. Once cranking, and subsequent engine run, it will provide constant ground to the relay.

By substituting power/ground to the appropriate pin on the relay, you can easily discern where the concern will be.

the schematic shows 4 pins since only 4 are used and a "universal relay" is used that has Common, Normally Open, and Normally Closed.
So that equates to the using the pins common and Normally open - Normally open means when not activate, ie relay is not on the circuit is open ie off.
The normally closed position is just ignored. A better schematic would have shown it since that would be a more accurate drawing in that case.

Without the fancy EHC the NC connector along with some wiring from a real key switch that handles power, could be used to power headlight so that when trying to start, it would kill the headlight. Most don't bother even with that.

Hey guys I pulled the relays and tested them and they work fine. When I turn the key on and hit the run button shouldn't I hear the click from the relay?

If I hook up my computer to the VFI and use Protune would that software tell me anything?

If its really quiet I can here the relay on my Bagger. I would suggest you call Curtis at Wildsteedworxs, he has a lot of info on the VFI.
