Has anyone used the 9 plate clutch system from Baker?
Ive installed it with the new ball and ramp assembly, and dont have enough through to release the clutch, even after removing the spring seat it still wants to drag????
Any Info is appreciated
Thanks

Maybe we should go back in time, why did you replace the plates to begin with? To fix what?
There is only so many parts in clutch, is the rod adjusted right? Is the cable OK? You sure the Ball and ramp is how it should be.

The shop i got the bike from had replaced the plates with and the inner hub and carrier. When i got the bike it was slipping on the top end, the supposedly new plates where burnt up so i ordered a new set from baker installed them and im where im at now. rod is adjusted 1/4 turn out and i have a 1/16" of free play on the cable at the lever

Not sure how new plates burn up ...but....

I am guessing you went from 12 plates down to 9? You changed the steels too? The steel plates are thicker on the 9.

Is the shop doing the work? Stack height needs to be 1.96 +-0.003

When you get <1.96 it becomes hard to adjust and slips. Even on the 9 plate system I've swapped out some of the steels for thicker ones. Also the thickest one goes first 0.120 Steel plate is first then friction then steel.

I'm pretty sure they over adjusted the clutch to keep it from draggin just guessing, I'm doin the work, stack height is around 1.97",
yes new steels but all the steels baker sent are the same thickness 0.121"

Something aint adding up....

9 Steel's, 9 Friction.

9 Steel @ .121 = 1.089"
9 Friction @ .09 = .81"
Total - 1.899"

What we missing?

Sucks the 9 plate was new in 08 and the manual doesn't give you the sizes. Just Fiber sizes

Paper work that came with the plates from Baker dont give a measurements on the frictions just steels got it all back together at the moment or would measure them, was just curious if anyone has had the same issue, have tried multiple adjustments and had it back apart a couple times now

One more thing, what oil you have in primary? The new Harley oil is causing a lot of misery...

Are all the steels facing the same way? Use finger, you will notice the other edge of the steel is sharper than the other. Sharp sides to the gearbox, or at least all steels same direction.
I think I used at least two different thickness of steels on mine to get it the way I liked. Also I steels are blue, use some sand paper on them.

I just measured a new 9 disc I have and the friction plates are .100 x 9 =.900
The steels are correct, .121

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
Both the 12 and the 9 plate clutches have an identical stack height.
My 2008 BDM Manual says the 9 friction plates should measure at least 0.845".
Baker confirmed what Eric said, total stack height for either the 9 or 12 plate total package should be 1.97 (+/- .05) with 50 lbs of weight on it.
Also look at your spring. i took this one out today, and at 0.24, it is too worn to use. New ones should measure about 0.31, and I think they are on EBay for $40 or so. Measure it and replace it if it is sagging.

Rick that looks better ...I said +-0.003 which I thought was too little but it's straight out of the 05 manual +-0.05 makes more sense must be a a typo.

You get my private message earlier this week about big Jim's rally?

Do I remember right, synthetic oil in primary is no-no. Marky (?) just wrote about oil screwing out the clutch, can't remember which oil that was... Maybe worth looking up...

Yep no go on synthetic. I would ditch the redline primary lube and go type F ATF fluid
