2004 EHC recall

I was trying to get a number of people that have had their ehc replaced by BD under recall on the 2004 models.
Mine has went out and I am trying to get BD to replace it.
If I could get some help with who has gone this route please let me know.

Thx

Cuz - - I've replaced one, but there was no "recall" that I'm aware...

What have you heard?

No way I'm staying with the EHC. I'm going the Rainman route the next time it craps or this winter -- which ever hits first!

I have had big dog replace 2 of them for me but both were for failures and no recall that I knew of. First one was after about it was 6 months old and the last one was 5 months after my warranty expired. No one had one for an 04 model so I kept calling every dealer until I found one. I bought it and installed it myself and for the hell of it I called big dog customer service to see if I could get reimbursed and they said yes as long as I send them the faulty EHC and it checks bad. Did just that and got a check from them a couple weeks later.

Thx for replies fellas,
They just got it changed out today and the shop is doing the normal checks.
My buddy is going to call BD today and check on how to get it replaced by BD. Im sure they will probably want to send the bad one back to get reinbursement if any.

barhopper

Another round please
I think he will redo all electrical. That means new hand controls and maybe bars also. I think its fairly complex and can't be cheap. I know I couldn't do it. But then again, I suck at many things.

Rainman redid his (I can't find his thread). I think he used the Wire Plus system from;

Wire Plus

I'm done with the EHC when it dies again. Too damn iffy if it craps out in the middle of Montana. No shop but a BDM center will be able to help you out...

Dam,
I might need to go the Rainman route myself. Or travel to him to pay him to do the wiring. All of these stories are worrying me.......

Big Dog did not have a recall on the 04 EHC. It is an updated version, wich uses the current EHC. They have an adapter that works with the o4 models. It cost about $500. Your 04 is out of warranty. (right). Most people who own BDM bikes think they have a lifetime warranty. But they only have a two year warranty. Unless you have an extended warranty you purchased from your dealer......

Thx for everyones reply. Much appreciated.
I myself am well aware of the 2 year warranty. I purchased another warranty on the bike on top of the factory warranty.
We are currently working with BD on replacing the EHC. This does not fall under a recall, Just a replacement. Hopefully we can have a great outcome due too so many EHC problems on record with BD.
Again thx everyone.

Good luck Cuz -- BDM does a pretty good job of stepping up to the plate, but at some point they will run out of options for the "older" Dogs.

It's a design flaw in my head, I don't blame them in the end--it's just a (after the fact) bad idea to use that EHC.

I had to change mine out. I elected for the previous version which was around 200 bucks. The new one with the adapter was close to 500. I am pretty sure if they install one it will be the newer version. Good luck getting BD to pay for the change out....:bang:

I am the second owner of ny 2004 Pitbull, have the same issue. My bike only has 4,000 miles on it. I was thinking of writing the V.P. of Consumer Affairs at Big Dog.

I understand 2 year warranty, but from what I am hearing from various dealers in 2 states, they have discontinued the $200 or so part, and replaced it with an almost $600 part. Mine should not have gone out with the low mileage.

Please let me know what you find out, and I will do the same

In some cases, BDM will replace an EHC at no cost if the bike has low mileage. But back to the point, if it were a Harley, you would have to buy the part, plus pay labor cost.. I love BDM bikes, my wolf is a one of a kind ! My friends own a Harley R-King (07). and still say my bike is much better looking than any harley on the road. I've never seen an ugly Big Dog bike. Not only do the BDM bike look awesome, but they are the best running machines out there.
