I'm probably posting this info in the wrong format, but here it is anyway.........
I have been having problems with my 04 speedometer. However it goes through the calibration checks when powered up. The odometer always functions properly. While riding the needle will drop after time between 15 and 25 mph. CHecked all wiring connections, found no indicators, went ahead and applied dielectric to each plug...I ran a calibration check and found that the pulse count was low. 98207 pulses in a known 2 mile stretch. Should be 104220.
Installed a new speedometer sensor in the tranny last night. Now to go out and calibrate it, and see what happens.
Went out and re calibrated the speedometer after the above work was completed. The pulse count is now within specs. But the same problem existed. At higher rpms the needle would vibrate excessivly. I have the original thin speedometer mount.
To fix the vibration issue. I removed the 2 mounting bolts, and inserted a 3/8 thick rubber washer between the speedometer housing and the mounting bracket at each bolt location.
Since adding "rubber mount" modification on the speedometer. The speedometer works properly with 230 miles on it since the work was done.
With no needle vibration. Always had to isolate the speedometers on those wonderful shovelheads......
I didn't know if this had already been listed on the forum......Just thought I would let you all know it worked.....

I was leaning towards the sender from your problem description. You would see a higher error on the speedo than the odometer if the pick-up was failing. The virbration issue would affect a jewel movement speedo more than a stepper motor movement. I don't know what the later Big Dogs use yet.
