2004 Big Dog Wire Plus Issues

Hello everyone.

My name is Josh and I am active duty Air Force stationed in Montgomery, AL. I don't know anyone around here I trust with bikes so I really appreciate everything I have been able to learn and read on this site.
I recently bought a 2004 bulldog that wasn't running. The guy said the ehc was fried after jump starting it.

I ordered the Wire Plus Kit and started installing it yesterday. I followed the instructions as well as I could and used all of the resources I could find on this site. I now have all of the connections made and the switch is hooked up. I tested all of the wires I could as I was installing the unit.

Now when I turn the key, the acc notch gives me the ignition and accessory lights on the power module. I also get the lights around the tach, but nothing on the speedometer or odometer. The on notch gives me lights and the lights or third light on the power module.

I don't get any lights on the compression release, start input, or start output. The light on the switch control module does not come on and the ground is connected to the negative terminal of the battery.

Nothing happens when I touch any of the buttons on the handle bars.

Also, my bike has twin-tech ignition, and I believe it came with the thunderheart?

Any help anyone could give would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to the pound Josh. I recently installed a WP on my Pitbull. I had a few hiccups too. Start by double checking ALL the connections you made, as well as ALL the grounds. I missed a ground first time around and had the same results as you. I did have to modify two connections...I'm at work so I'll post what I changed when I get home.


Update:

I ended up swapping wire #6 from Plug #1 with wire #6 Plug #2. This may not be necessary in your situation though. Keep us posted....

Ditto. I had missed the step of grounding the bundle of ground wires for the module. I had them all connected together but had not grounded them to the battery.

I tried switching a few more grounds to the battery and then eventually all of them. I am still at the same place I was so I do not believe it was any of those grounds. I am worried a few things have changed because of the changed ignition system.

My plan is to remove the tank and check off every wire using the original schematic and wire plus schematic that someone on the forum made. I would appreciate a higher res copy if someone could email it to me. I am also going to go ahead and clean up all of the wiring when I check the connections.

I talked to one of the techs at WP and she said I needed to check to see if I was getting power to the white/black wire since this was what send power to the switch module. I even redid that connection, but still no luck. I will see what I can get when I clean everything up. Thanks again for the replies and any additional help would be great. There do not seem to be many pictures of what it looks like when finished or many walk-throughs. Anyways, thanks again!

Another quick question, and this may be a dumb one, but how do I test the switches as I am installing? I.e. individually? The instructions say "the pushbutton switches may checked for continuity to ground through the output wire as they are hooked up? Would this be done with one of the light up circuit testers? Thanks again guys!
