2004 BDC troubles

Energy One
Hello so about 2 weeks ago after just getting my bike back from having the gaskets changed the next day I went to a buddies house and when I got ready to leave I had to jump start my bike I got a few miles down the road and my bike started smoking and died, I noticed that it melted the cam. Does anyone might know what else it could of done please.

Well from what im gathering by what you have said either the battery or voltage regulator wiped out the cam sensor....could have been a short of one of the the two also....check all the wiring on the battery to and from it and test to see if the battery has a dead short internal....you can test the voltage regulator also.....but if one of the two shorted i would replace both before i put a new cam sensor on it....put a deka battery on it and order yourself acam sensor and voltage regulator from www.bigdogpartskinpin.com....also before removing your cam sensor mark where it is now so you can install it exactly where it was so not to jack up your timing onthe motor

Does your red light on the ignition module flash while your cranking the motor over?....also what ehc do you have on it, factory or aftermarket?...if you get time take a pic of what under your seat so maybe we might be able to see what you have

Hi Forrest ,
Did you resolve the issue you were having in Post # 8 ? If not, I would fix that before replacing the ignition. The starting system is totally different than ignition. I think you may be getting ahead of yourself.
Also if you can use the term " won't crank" instead of " won't start" and vise versa when you are explaining an issue . Two similar statements but different meanings and trouble shooting paths.

There is a set screw somewhere in the housing. Very small. I could never find it. There use to be a picture on here showing it's location. Do a search using different words and you might just find it. I typed in "front brake switch" and found a thread called brake lights and it showed a picture where the allen screw is located. Good Luck.

? Won't Crank or Won't start ? Give a more specific symptom." A problem starting" is too vague. When you hit Run/Start do you hear anything like a click or a whirr or does it crank the engine and it just doesn't start like your out of gas?
