2004 BDC troubles

? Won't Crank or Won't start ? Give a more specific symptom." A problem starting" is too vague. When you hit Run/Start do you hear anything like a click or a whirr or does it crank the engine and it just doesn't start like your out of gas?
When he hits the run/start it clicks once so this is a run down of what happened and what hes done

WHAT HAPPENED?
Started up just fine at home, went to a buddies house about 8 miles away.
Was there a for a few hours, needed a jump when he got ready to leave. (It was cold & late). Got a jump from his buddies Corvette with it running. Got about 3 1/2 miles the bike started smoking and died. He found that it melted the cam sensor. Im not sure what else it can be. Hes changed the cam sensor, the ignition switch, the pc board for the run and start switches, changed the thunderheart module to the dyna 2001. Bought a new battery. And still nothing please if someone can help my husband i would be so greatful

Read post number 4 carefully. The VR may have took a dump and when it was jumped by a running vehicle, it may have toasted the ehc? Sounds like some troubleshooting is needed to find the root cause?
You are right...now that we know it got jumped by a running vehicle it may have and most likely did burn it up the ehc

OK back to troubleshooting. You gave 2 symptoms let's narrow it down one at a time. Post 21 " clicks once " and Post # 25 " it wants to crank over but doesn't start.
We will troubleshoot the starter first.
Step 1: Does the battery have 12.8 volts when you read across the + and - terminals. If yes go to Step 2 if no recharge and test battery new or not. By test I mean load test at your local battery shop.
Step 2 : unplug the green wire from the starter and connect the +meter lead to the green wire and - to ground. look for voltage 12v when you hit the run/start button. You should hear the compression releases CLICK also at this time. IF you hear the click and get the 12v at the green wire it means at least you are sending a signal for the starter to engage.
Post your results and we can move on from there. Again one step at a time and try not to get frustrated.

So post 21 was before he changed out the Thunderheart module to the DYNA2001 post 25 it what happened yesterday Dec 23rd after i finish hooking up the Dyna2001. It cranks over but doesnt wanna start its not the battery & he has plenty of fuel. He was thinking maybe the timing off would that cause it

OK since the motor is now cranking strong we need to troubleshoot the No Start issue. For a motor to run it requires Spark, Fuel, compression and timing.
Are you fuel injected or carb? If you are fuel injected this procedure needs to be done. After disconnecting and reconnecting your battery on EFI's only. You must turn your key on, push run, you will hear the fuel pump cycle, then wait for your engine light to go off. Turn your key off, wait 15 seconds. She will be ready.
If you don't hear the pump we need to figure out why.
If it has a carburetor check to make sure your fuel petcock is set open. Take the air filter off and look inside the carb while you hit the throttle a couple of times. You should see squirts of fuel. If no squirts we move on to answer why.
If the bike passes both of these tests we will move on and troubleshoot the ignition.

Ok its getting fuel

You are all over the place. 2 threads working makes it confusing to all. As of now , your starter works and you have fuel to the cylinders. Is that correct? How do you know you have fuel? Do you hear the fuel pump or see the squirts of fuel? You still haven't said if your EFI or Carb. Which is it?

:agree:
Can u test the voltage regulator
[/QUOTE]
Yes you can test it....but it has nothing to do with the bike not starting up unless the voltage regulator burnt the cam sensor and if that is the case you probably burnt the new cam sensor up because of the bad voltage regulator.....voltage regulator should have been changed when you replaced the cam sensor or atleast unplugged it before trying to crank the bike up to see if the bike would even run...

Jumping the bike off with a car running probably smoke the cam sensor and voltage regulator....and very very good chance took out the ehc...

Yes it can test it....but it has nothing to do with the bike not starting up....all it does is maintain battery charge

Oh ok cause someone else
