Hi y'all, great forum and first time post.
When I ride my '03 pitbull at highway speeds many times unexpectedly the bike starts to lurch forward like as if she's out of gas. I have to switch to the reserve tank and she continues on her way. This has happened since the day I bought her as a birthday present to myself. Rode her today and had the same lurching problem. This time I kept the fuel petcock on main tank and she died (red engine light went on). Had to pull off, wait a few minutes, set petcock to reserve to restart.
I've taken it to the dealer where I bought the bike and they had techs look it over on 2 occassions and they say the bike is fine. On the first visit they suggested a fuel filter which I had them add, then on the second visit they tweaked the fuel enrichener but that was it.
I don't think that fixed the problem since when I ride it I still notice the problem. The interesting thing is when I check both gas tanks are FULL. Weather was hot around 100 degrees.
I love this bike but have had this problem forever. I told my wife that it can get dangerous never knowing when the bike will sputter and quit.
I have no idea what the problem is, but have read other threads that it could be a fuel vaporizing problem?
I noticed that the two gas caps are different (don't know which side is main or reserve tank).
Any suggestions is kindly appreciated!
