Hey guys... been a while since I have been on. Before I was looking at an '04, and an '05 chopper. I didn't move on either as I was a bit leary about the potential EHC issues. In yall's opinion would an '03 be anymore trust worthey. I have looked at a ton of Harley's, Victorys, etc... I just cannot get a chopper out of my head.

This is the one I am currently lookng at.

2003 Big Dog Motorcycle Chopper $12,950 - Dream Machines of Texas Farmers Branch, Texas 75234

Thank yall for any input.

03's are pretty solid bikes but issues can come up with any year. Knock on wood, I've never had any wiring issues with my 02 Pit

I don't think there is any real difference there. But, if you look at most of the posts, as long as you maintain the battery and connections you shouldn't have any real issues with EHC at least for a while. I did eventually put a Wire Plus on my '04 but to me the bike was definitely still worth it. Of course with the '03 you will have a left side drive that will make the bike feel a little left heavy at first as compared to the balance of the RSD bikes. Again, something you get used to. I don't even notice it on mine anymore. One up side is the older S&S 107 was built to run right out of the gate and won't have all the EPA de-tuning stuff that came later. I'd say if you like the style and paint, shoot them an offer. BTW - you also have quite a few BD owners in the DFW area that would probably look at it for you if you have any questions..

The 03 is probably the best bikes BDM made. The Heart EHC is good, most of the bikes components were from outside sources before BDM started making them inhouse. The 107 is a brick shit house power plant. This was right before the FED's came in and started screaming about the emmissions. The 107 is alot like the 1967 327 chevy motor. It will produce great power even though it is slightly smaller in cu.in. Just a balls to the wall motor. When the emmissions became a problem S&S had to build bigger motors to produce the same or slightly under the power produced by the 107 motors. S&S said the 107 motors sent to BDM in 2003 averaged between 105-110hp. I actually have a 2003 Chopper and bought it in 2004. I love the bike! Unless I die I plan on having it for many many years!

So you can get the Wire Plus for the '03? For some reason I thought is was '04 and up. I suppose if the EHC's are still available I could travel with an extra. Again, I know I should get a Harley, but a godamed chopper has been a dream of mine for a while. Do yalls wives mind riding 2 up on these things?

If it goes bad just yank it out and rewire it. I have 2 03's, One with the orignal EHC and one thats been rewired.

My avitar should say it all! That picture was taken in Sturgis in front of Big Dog's 18 wheeler in 2006. She rides 2 up for about 4 of the 7 days we are in Sturgis. She is good for 300-400 miles on the back with no problem. On the other days she is either on the Ultra Classic with me, or on her 1200 Sportster.

Well there you go. The one I am looking at doesn't have the struts to accept a sissy bar. Reckon I would have to hunt those down.

There not hard to install, quite easy! Donna, or BDProducts will have them. Try Derrick and Donna 1st. The bike really is fantastic, not just blowing smoke. Before the chopper I had a HD Heritage, HD Lowrider, HD road King and non had the ride nor the looks this bike has. I do like the luggage rack. When I ride to work, I toss my lunch and thermos in the smaller T-bag. When the Mrs is with me she puts her purse and stuff in there. On long trips I have a large T-bag we pack for overnights and blast off!

Well, the rim style is called Mad Clown. Derrick & Donna have rear sprocket these wear in about 8K-10KThe kick stand was updated. The 03 models are located by foot controls. The coil cover/motor support has been upgraded. Big dog did this to my bike when it went back for the frame recall, so most than likely this frame was fixed. It's a good looking bike, 10.5K in my view is a good deal. I prefer it over a 2008 model K9. But that just me. Parts innerchange with Harley in the 03 models so that makes things easier. seriously, more parts swap out with this bike and a Harley than this bike and a 2008 K9. If you like the bike, pounce on it. You will not regret it.

Well I guess that is a good thing. I read about the weld that could crack. And this one is 10K... more miles though.
