Well guys I promised a quick How to on the problem I had with my 2002 Pitbull. Basically I rode the bike all day, pulled into the driveway, made a quick pitstop and when I returned to the bike to ride some more, NOTHING! Apparently in 2002 Big Dog used a starter Module(see picture)

Apparently this was the only year they did this according to the tech at the BDM store in St. Louis. Anyway, the green switch wire had broken off at the epoxy and since my battery lacked a hold down strap, the module was hanging by the wires.....Anyway, easy fix for $40 or so, but I picked up a strap too and strapped the new module in place on the battery as to prevent this from happening again!

The X denotes the wire that broke! Hope this helps someone!

does the module create any heat? if so, you may want to put some spacers between it and the battery.

I was wondering the same thing about the potential for heat.

I am not sure that all 02's had the starting module either.

I will double check mine but I have'nt come across one on my bike to this point

I wonder if you could just get rid of the thing and run the green wire down to the starter. I know mine has a green wire that runs to the starter. Just wondering :loony:

Carlos,
According to the BDM dealer in St. Louis, the module is a step down resistor that runs thru the EHC, I wondered the same thing and was planning to just put a simple 30amp relay in line to run the bike instead of waiting on the new module. The module doesn't seem to emit much heat and don't think it's going to affect anything as it was just hanging between the battery and the box.

Thanks guys! I'm cleaning her up for some brisk autumn driving tomorrow. I just built the engine last winter, almost broken in and once it's running perfectly, I'll swap a very large turbo on it in the quest for 400whp! I have lots of pics of the engine being disassembled and reassembled if anyone wants them, just pm me your email and I'll send u some! Fun project!:loony:

I guess you bought it broken Artie? What does a broken lotus run a guy these days?
Mikie,
No, I have had her for about 5 years now. I threw a rod bearing in Cylinder 4 after turning up the boost to 30psi(oops). She ran great for a few minutes! LOL! I bought the car running but in need of paint and some other mechanical items. Got it for $25K. I've put about another $10K in the engine and some other dress up things! I didn't buy it as an investment though, good thing! Lol! Sure is fun to drive though!

I wish I had more money.
I have liked those for some time. Since Mid Rivers Lotus was on 367. I liked the silver and the yellow.

Yellow was a hot color, it had a black mica metalflake in it and looked beautiful at sunset! I've ordered a couple of things from the St. Louis Lotus dealership, but found a supplier out of California that has way better prices and really knows these older cars very well....... I've considered painting mine yellow, but the bike shot that idea down! I think I'm going to buy some spray equipment and learn how to paint! I have so many things I'd love to be able to paint and always parlay them because it's expensive to send them off for paint!! Oh well! Always something new to learn!

Mine is a 1989 with some later model updates. I added the rear 4 taillight panel from a 2002 V8, 18" wheels and restitched the leather interior with all new leather about 2 years ago. Smells awesome! I have a couple of bids out right now on the bike, I'm going fairly simple and clean, it's too rainbow bright for me with all the colors it has....I may take it on myself to learn how to lay some paint. I can prep and lay down sealer, I've done that on all of my cars before having them painted, but I have some grafx that I want to do so I may have that done somewhere and then spray the clear on myself and do the final colorsand at home and polish. Not quite sure yet, I'm looking at a lift for the bike too so that may be the deciding factor. If I get the lift, I may deplete the winter fun fund more than I would have and will be relegated to painting it all myself! Gotta learn sometime!

Artie, Nice rides! I can't help but to think miami vice with the car though. Tell me you don't wear a hot pink shirt with a white blazer when picking up the date.
