1ST oil change

gettin ready to do my 1ST OIL CHANGE on my 2004 Big Dog Ridgeback 107 S&S engine............I found the oil tank under the back by rear tire,found the drain plug...WHERE THE HELL do I fill it back up at....and how do u check the level of oil in it after I fire it back up and run it? Thanks!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO WHERE to fill it under the seat by the battery like normal?

Recommend you use the search at the top of the page, or go to the How To forum; there's hundreds of posts that explains all sorts of maintenance procedures. I know it's easier to ask but you'll be surprised what you can learn after reading these posts. When I first got my BD, I'd read and then go check that particular item on my bike, found and prevented some issues by doing this. just a suggestion.....

Thanks for everyones Help.....I will do a search on this.....And yeah its got a oil temp guage and a oil psi guage on the front of the engine....

as stated already, more than likely the oil temp gauge IS ON THE END OF THE DIPSTICK. try pulling or twisting the temp gauge.

As seen if sitting on the bike...:eek:
Move from the drain plug to the right edge of the oil tank, then move up.
The filler is on the Right, Rear, Top corner of the oil tank.:)

Manual states to fill to the bottom thread of the opening for the fill cap/temp gauge with the bike sitting upright and level.:up:

negative on the crankcase, it's best to stay away. EVO motors push oil through the engine and then into the filter. You can actually run your motor with the filter off to ensure all the old oil is out.

1. Drain the Tank.
2. Remove the Oil Filter
3. Fill the Oil Tank (3 QTS probably)
4. Run the Bike (Either Build Carboard canal or buy a Scavenger from Mad Dog) runs from the filter opening to a catch can
5. Once you see clean oil turn off bike
6. Spin on new oil filter
7. Top off Oil (Bottom of Filler Neck when bike is in upright position)

Capacity on the rigid is 3.75 QTS I put in a little less as it blows it all out anyways if I put in the full amount.

something i have noticed on the K9 and also on Iman's Mastiff, i guess due to the oil tank being above the filter level, the motor doesn't even have to be cranked to drain the rest of the old oil out of the system, gravity does it for you. or at least that's the way it appears to me.

I ended up getting one and it really makes more of a mess than just running a piece of cardboard. When you gotta screw it off you got oil all over the motor mount again. IMO it isn't worth it for what a piece of cardboard can do.

Now don't get me wrong it's a really high quality nice machined part just doesn't really have a value on an EVO engine. Evo oil goes from tank to engine then to filter and back to tank....I used mine once and it's sitting somewhere in the bottom of a box.

I take out two cap screws and remove the filter mount and swing it over outside the frame. Can use my scavenger without worry of a mess on the bike. Plus it is much easier to polish the filter mount and right side of motor case.
